Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Britta Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Britta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
We are a family run business, while it’s hard to live on site, we are able to spend more time with our children and they get to experience fun of weddings with us hope they will want to one day join the family business.
Britta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Jackson Manor started as a dream before I officially became a Jackson myself. In 2012, I started a wedding planning business with the ultimate goal of one day owning and operating my own wedding venue.
I became a bride myself in 2016 and married Joel Jackson, the other half of what makes this Jackson Manor. Joel spent his life being a classically trained chef and with my determination and experience as well as his gifted talents and ultimately our desire to spend more time together, Twist Catering was born late 2017.
In 2019 we welcomed our first child Ella, who like her parents already loves weddings and has already had the honor of being a flower girl in 3 weddings.
In 2020, we felt that it was finally time to take the next step and find the perfect fairytale ending that would ultimately become Jackson Manor. We spent months looking for the right spot and in October 2020, we found it.
For the past 2 and half years, we have spent every available day and night making our dreams a reality and were humbled to host our first event in April of 2021 and first wedding June 2021. Throughout the past years, we added various projects and enhancements including a brand new getting ready suite.
Any advice for managing a team?
I like to lead by example and live by the moto I would never ask someone to do something I would do myself. We are very hands on and make sure my team feels fully supported. Luckily to have a great group who is highly motivated to help us succeed.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
We when were reading to start having children I knew I couldn’t keep working 60+ hours a week, at the time I was working full time at high end hotel plus wedding planning. With wedding planning and weddings being our passion we started the hunt for a permanent solution which lead to wanting to start our dream of running our own venue.
