We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Britt Vasina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Britt below.
Britt, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk that I have taken in my career as an artist was really just sharing my work in the first place. I created an instagram account (I think in 2017) to just post photos when I started painting again. I figured it would be fun to look back and see my progress. To my surprise, I had family and friends who wanted to buy my work and encouraged me to continue painting. What started as a therapeutic way for me to ward off anxiety had suddenly become a business I never knew I wanted. I decided to take a risk and just see where it took me. Over 5 years later, it’s amazing to look back and see how much both my work and business has evolved and all the wonderful connections and opportunities I’ve had along the way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am an abstract artist and landscape photographer primarily working with acrylic paint and ink out of Portland, Oregon. I release a few collections of original work each year, take commissions from clients and also just recently started selling my fine art photography prints. In 2020, I also branched out into textiles and started to create towels with my work on them. These have been a hit and are a great way to affordably bring art into your home while also serving a functional purpose! This year, in my efforts to support sustainability, I became a 1% for the Planet member. I am committed to giving back, conservation and making sure this beautiful planet is kept for many generations to come.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There are a few really rewarding aspects as an artist. I get to do what I love, that’s of course the biggest gift. Seeing that someone actually wants to hang my art in their home is quite a feeling. It still is crazy to me that I’ve sold hundreds and hundreds of paintings, and that people are making me a small part of their home. It really is indescribable. Another really rewarding part of this journey for me is to be able to give back. The more work I sell, the more I give back.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Really just to have fun and not take it too seriously. That’s what it’s all about right?
