Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Britt Fabello. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Britt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew as a teenager that there was no other option for me if I wanted to feel fulfilled and so I went off to study studio art as well as graphic design in college. Art has always felt a part of me. It embodies every aspect of my life. I’m grateful to get to be in this space for my career.
Britt, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an artist living and working in Los Angeles. I work across multiple mediums to explore the intangible energies that surround us. The most current pieces I’ve created have been painted and sewn canvases expressing fleeting memories that evoke a sense of nostalgia. However, what I am most known for are my hand-sewn works on paper that work to capture a sense of place.
No matter what medium I am working in, the intent is to foster a meditative practice at its core, finding intentional ways to slow down. As I continue to grow in my creativity, it becomes less about what medium I am working in and more about deepening the process. I want the pieces to not just be interpretations from my mind, but also be spaces where viewers can rest their eyes and get lost in their own meditative state.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think my goal is similar to most artists—I want people to feel things from my work. But my personal goal is for people to pause when they come to my pieces and feel a deep reflective state. We are bombarded by so many things as we walk through our days. I want to ask people to slow down, think, feel, and connect. When I’m in my studio working on my pieces, I put this hope in each of them.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Getting to create every day and connect to our world and others through that. Being an artist feels like a rebellion against everything we’re told to do in society. Living in that space, not only do you hold creativity in your career, but you get to have it extend out into your everyday life as well. Artists have a unique perspective on the world and we get to help guide others to see things differently too.
