We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Britny Lobas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Britny , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
As an artist, I find that I process life through writing music. I write music as a form of release. My songs are usually stories of something that has happened in my life. Most projects I do are meaningful, but some are also just for fun.
I am about to release “Hollow (Sober Version) Friday April 12th. This song in particular is VERY meaningful to me. “Hollow (Sober Version) represents a significant milestone in my personal and artistic journey. Originally
penned in 2022 during a tumultuous period marked by my own battle with alcohol
addiction, the song serves as a poignant reflection on the struggle to overcome inner
turmoil. My decision to re-record the track signifies a testament to my resilience and
unwavering commitment to sobriety.
“I recorded Hollow in 2022—a song I wrote about filling up the hollow part of yourself.
It’s a song about disparity and a cry for help, reflecting my own addiction to alcohol. After almost loosing my life to alcohol, I will be almost two years sober. I decided to re-record Hollow to embody the strength and resilience I’ve discovered on this journey. The difference between the two versions, is undeniable.”
Britny , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Britny Lobas is an Austin based pop rock powerhouse, originally from Cleveland, OH. Born into a musical family, her father was a full time musician and rock n roller and her mother a writer. She grew up singing in church and quickly jumped into the live music scene at a young age. She is known for her high energy, passionate and often too honest live performances.
Britny Lobas’ pop rock sound is self empowering; with cinematic soulful melodies that are both catchy and commanding. Evocative of Amy Winehouse, Paramore and Christina Aguilera. With a ferocious vocal range, this she-wolf will demand your attention and keep it within her firm grasp.
Garnering rave reviews from EarMilk, KUTX, Clout, Illustrate Magazine and more. Britny Lobas is an established rising star who most recently has opened up for Big Boi, LP and Maggie Rose.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I moved to Austin, Texas in 2012 to purse my musical dreams. I’ve never been to Austin, just heard it was cool, big things were happening down there, so I left. Within the timeframe of 8 years, I had started 3 different bands and recorded several records. In 2020 when the pandemic hit, my 3rd band Corbella fell apart. We were on the up and up and doing some big things. Unfortunately, that all changed. The world changed. I was heartbroken, hopeless and deflated. My drummer Alec Cabrera and I were super close and decided to keep making music. I then started working with my now manager, Austin Breckinridge who nudged me to go the solo route, under the name Britny Lobas (A route I should’ve gone a long time ago.) And then came long time friend, Garrett Jay Brown. My musical soul mate, really. After many many months and long hours of writing, rehearsing, recording, blood, sweat and tears. The Britny Lobas project and full band was in full swing. And boy, does it kick ass. It is my favorite version of any live show I’ve ever performed.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist. Is being able to process something I’ve gone through and put it in a song and release it into the world. And if I’m lucky, I can touch someone who may be feeling the same way or similar situation and I can help them.
