We were lucky to catch up with Britney Walton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Britney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I can first say, I didn’t know anything about modeling just from Tyra banks, ANTM tv show. This was something I had on my mind since I was a little girl but never really committed to it later on as I got older just thought I wasn’t built for it or just maybe my imagination as a child just thinking (oh that could never be me). But after high school I started modeling and getting lesson and training from my first photographer who I still work with to this day. His name if Gregory Lopez, he is a wonderful teacher and photographer, I learn a lot from him, the dos and fonts and up and downs of modeling and being comfortable with yourself and others and putting your self out there more and getting noticed or teaming up with others photographers/people.
Not going to lie, it’s still kind of hard for me to get out their but I’ve gotten better at my craft and learning the main focus of this whole model experience.
Britney , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I love to model, I love fashion, I love music, I love food, I love meeting new photographers and models and learning something new from someone everyday and getting to know more about this whole modeling industry. I love movies especially horror or action movies, sometimes a little mystery maybe. I enjoy my small business that I have together and needing to more consistent with.
I make lipgloss and sell other accessories on the side with that also. My own personal brand I want to have in the near future. Having my own business in the future is also on my list of accomplishments.
Like I once said I always doubted myself of things, so business was never something I thought I could or would ever do, but I gave it a try. I love lipgloss and accessories so that’s something I want to sell and a lot of to women or men doesn’t matter, as long I get to sell my products and people enjoy them as much as I love making them.
I’m proud of myself for being more confident and consistent with my work, I try to be more on top with my modeling and I have now gain the confidence to embrace myself and love myself inside and out of my body.
Nude picture was the hardest thing I couldn’t see my self doing for a long time but I gain the confidence to do so, so I feel more good and free to do me.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My particular goal as of now, is find a agent or being in a agency. That one thing I want accomplish or be apart of the Newyorkfashionweek or LAfashionweek 2023, let’s hope I have the opportunity to attend that show next year, is something I would be really proud of myself for attending.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My only side hustle was my small business i started in 2020, but that small business is something I do really love and want to have as a brand when I get older.
Of course I had a full/part time job
But that’s just for the money and to keep my busy and financially stable until the real deal of being a fashion model comes along.
Having to be a fashion model and trying to out myself out there and also working was hard for me to do because I always felt like I was missing out on a lot of opportunities and casting calls for fashions shows.
But I’m doing better at it, I’m trying to be more consistent and become more confident and try new things away down the road.
