We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Britney Newman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Britney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I have always been passionate about fashion design, which led me to utilize my military education benefits to earn a bachelor’s degree in the field. After successfully achieving my goals within the industry, I decided to channel my creativity into the arts.
From a young age, I was deeply immersed in the arts, attending art schools and participating in exhibitions. I am a self-taught artist with skills in drawing, sculpting, and painting. My love for working with resin inspired me to create large-scale luxury geode art, which ultimately led to my role as an artist at In the Eye of the Beholder Art Gallery in San Antonio, TX.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Failure is an inevitable part of any entrepreneurial journey, but true resilience lies in the ability to learn from setbacks and keep moving forward. As a business owner, I have faced challenges that tested my creativity, adaptability, and determination. Whether it was navigating financial obstacles, refining my artistic techniques, or adjusting to market demands, each failure became an opportunity for growth. Instead of viewing setbacks as defeats, I embraced them as lessons that shaped my approach, allowing me to refine my vision and build a stronger foundation for my business.
Perseverance in the face of adversity has proven to be my greatest asset. Every challenge I have encountered has reinforced my commitment to my craft and my business. Pushing forward despite obstacles has allowed me to innovate, expand my skills, and establish myself within the art community. By continuing to evolve, adapt, and remain steadfast in my passion, I have demonstrated that resilience is not just about enduring hardships—it is about using them as stepping stones toward greater success.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Networking and actively participating in art events and markets are essential strategies for growing a clientele and establishing a strong presence in the art community. Engaging with potential buyers, fellow artists, and industry professionals provides valuable opportunities to showcase my work, share my creative process, and build relationships that lead to future sales and collaborations. These events create a direct connection with art enthusiasts who appreciate handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces, allowing me to establish trust and rapport with potential clients. The more visible and accessible I am, the more likely people are to remember my work and seek it out in the future.
Beyond immediate sales, consistent participation in art events helps build a strong network that can lead to long-term opportunities. Word-of-mouth referrals, social media exposure, and connections with gallery owners or collectors often stem from these interactions. By immersing myself in the art scene, I stay informed about industry trends, gain insights from other artists, and create partnerships that enhance my brand’s reach. The more I engage, the more I solidify my reputation, ensuring that my work continues to attract new and returning clients.
