We were lucky to catch up with Britney Crawford recently and have shared our conversation below.
Britney, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
As a service provider (ie. business manager) I learned that there is not much separation between business owners and their personal lives. When working with clients, I often found myself managing their business and professional lives. Both are co mingled in many ways and for many entrepreneurs it is hard to separate. I also learned the impact one’s personal life has on their business. Knowing this, I named my company Working for Two LLC. In each client, there are two (the business owner and the person) and when I take on a client it is imperative that I work with both versions of them to best help manage their business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a black, lesbian female that hates titles but if I had to title my expertise is business/brand support. I help people manage their brand/business. I love to help people be better and improve. I worked for the federal government for 15 years and one day just quit because I did not feel my work have enougho impact to those who really needed it and wanted support. My success is mostly based on my reliability, trustworthiness and consistency…and results. My goal is always to help people grow and expose them to new and better opportunities to benefit them. I started my business, Working For Two in 2015 and have grown in revenue each year. Additionally, I founded a non-profit called The Giveland Foundation (www.givelandfoudnation.org) to give more to people and things and create a platform to grow a network of other givers like me.
I love to learn, travel and try new things. I love birthdays and celebrating people. I am a Libra and love catering to people. I am more of a behind the scenes person but lately in my mid-30s being more public. I am a true giver.
BIO
Britney Crawford is an entrepreneur, philanthropist, business to business (B2B) manager and digital strategist. With over 15 years of experience in business management, Britney’s mission is to service the assistance-seeking, driven, small business (or soon-to-be business owners) who want to elevate their businesses through automated business procedures and customer relations management services that strengthen their companies’ value.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, she centers her work in her community, for the growth and elevation of it, and the people in it. After having earned a Masters in Information Technology, she began working for the National Archives of Records Administration and developed an expert understanding of information processing, data analysis and retrieval along with digital collection and communication. With this, she recognized a trend that the success of any company depends upon its ability to do just this, collect data and utilize it for growth digitally. Not only did she recognize the trend, but noticed through her work of community organizing and advocacy, that the lack of small business growth disproportionately affected Black and Brown people, women, and returning citizens. She quit her job, and began Working for Two, using the tools she learned to build a company that helps other companies do the same.
Outside of running a small business herself, she facilitates client specific courses, training and coaching for entrepreneurs, especially in technology. Her passion for equipping businesses with the tools, steps and strategies that afford them better opportunities for growth is what’s given her a reputation for being a person that achieves results.
Crawford has facilitated awards for over $7 million in grants for her clients and wants to share with others how to do the same. She pushes herself, team and clients to not only use all resources available but provides step-by-step support on how to achieve these goals.
This past year, she committed herself to her lifelong passion of giving through philanthropy and launched The Giveland Foundation, a newly established philanthropic 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to create healthy, accessible, transparent, equitable opportunities that magnify and facilitate acts of giving. Being a part of the DC community, she understands the needs and most importantly, the ways in which to meet the needs of the residents of DC. With that said, no one is susceptible to the challenges of life, and needing the support of others, whatever shape that comes in – a ride to the store, help moving furniture, rent money, a skills training, or funds to build a tech library all are ways we build community. Britney believes in creating a space for us to see ourselves in others, become a support to others when we can, with what we have.
Inspired by entrepreneurs, and members of her community’s tenacity to push toward their dreams of wealth and legacy building encourages her to continue elevating.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My quality, reliability and trustworthiness has played a major role in building a reputation within my market. As a service provider and manager of someone’s business you have to have these qualities and they are directly tied to my mission and values. My clients know they can depend on me and I take that very seriously.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Between 2004 and 2019, I worked for the federal government making 6 figures. One day after getting the dream role and the big office with the perfect which I helped to custom design, I quit. I was literally sitting in my office one day and no longer wanted to be there. Although I had everything in my career, I was not happy working there any longer and it was affecting me mentally, physically and emotionally. By leaving my job, I left all of my security to later become an entrepreneur (after a year break) running my own business management firm and non-profit. I had to start from scratch. My pivot was once being the employee to being the employer.
