Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Britnee & Dorian Alphin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Britnee & Dorian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Being highschool sweethearts and later business partners already comes with basic risks (example: burn out from each other). One of the biggest risks we’ve taken is choosing to make our relationship public to inspire others. When we created our platform (on accident) we didn’t anticipate that the reach would be what it is nor did we have a clear direction or goal. After two years of having an entertaining platform with skits we did a complete shift in our narrative and started sharing more about the lessons we’ve learned in our marriage. We shared our most vulnerable moments publicly and also endured a lot of positive feedback but also a lot of criticism. Being a public figure and influencer has its overwhelming moments but there are so many moments where we feel like the risks we’ve taken to be public about our narrative outweighs those challenging times.
Britnee & Dorian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely! We’re the Alphins, Britnee and Dorian. We are high school best friends that truly couldn’t imagine life a part so we decided to get married and have two beautiful children.
You could imagine the stories, memories and lessons that we’ve encountered together over the span of almost 20 years. Those highs and lows led us to sharing our experiences with people who truly desire to be in love and experience true love with their forever person. Our passion for showing people the path to a healthy, pure and fulfilling love life birthed Happily Ever Alphin, a brand that embodies all things authentic love, adventure and vulnerable conversations for couples.
Having a brand that is so controversial in an arena that most people either love or truly despise because of their personal experiences has many layers. These layers include being inspirational, being criticized, being admired, envied, etc. Through every layer we try to focus on the mission of bringing positive energy to the topic of love. It’s not as complicated as people like to make it out to be and we plan on continuing the narrative by guiding people to and through a healthy love life.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Absolutely! About two years ago we had a major pivot that changed the trajectory of our lives. We had a serious and vulnerable conversation about our spiritual/religious beliefs and we both were the most honest with each other about our perspective on such a touchy topic. It made us realize that many couples have probably never had that conversation or just assumed they both believed the same things. After that conversation the dynamic of our marriage changed in such a big way. We began to flow together, learn new things, try new things and just explore life “freely” now that we shared our biggest “secret” with one another.
That moment was important in our story of resilience because as beautiful as it was for us to align and finally be on the same page and word in our active story together, we also endured a lot of trauma healing and growth that caused us to unpack our lives (both public and secret lives) to heal. Our lives began to truly evolve and then we got hit with anyone’s worst nightmare: we got evicted. That eviction moment challenged us in every area from communication to keeping a peaceful composure for our kids to figuring out life to positioning our new nomad lifestyle to our “innanet Tribe” and facing the reality that this could be a moment that breaks us. It didn’t break us, it built us. The eviction happened a few days before Christmas 2023 and what could’ve been an ugly circumstance turned out to be exactly what we needed. We pushed through and documented our journey in real time. We shared our experiences with our innanet Tribe and pivoted how we viewed the situation: it was an uprooting. Our goal is to start a new chapter in Los Angeles, California and we realized we got extremely comfortable in our temporary living situation for almost 3 years— it was past time!
We could’ve turned on each other, broken up and separated the kids, failed every test God-Source offered us but we didn’t. We used this moment to be vulnerable, grateful and resilient through what turned out to be a smooth uprooting process. We grew our personal brands, experienced new adventures and are now working on taking our brand on the road, RV road trip style, to get to Los Angeles in the summer 2024. Nothing about our lives has ever been conventional but it’s always been one hell of a ride and we truly believe our story will be one that gets told for years to come. Who knows we may even end up with a documentary told by Hulu in the near future, wink* wink*.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Funny story about building an audience… Our reach spans to over 300K across our social platforms and it was on accident! Yes complete accident. The TikTok profile our brand took over was actually my old cosmetic brand’s profile that wasn’t doing well at all. I (Wifey) wanted to switch up my marketing style so my husband and I created a random video that went viral— at the time we had no idea because we weren’t on TikTok like that. When we saw that video go viral we did another video and then that video went viral. After about 4 videos that all went viral back to back, we sat down and created our brand.
To be fair neither of us are strangers to entrepreneurship or creating brands. We both have had our own businesses and brands before and had a design and photography agency together for a few years. Working together was never a foreign concept is what I’m getting at…
We started to be more strategic and intentional with how we built the brand and discovered that there were thousands of people from millennials to baby boomers that never experienced authentic and genuine love. At the time we thought that was absurd because we had experienced it (so we thought) and it wasn’t that difficult to attain (so we thought). After our healing conversation a few years ago, we completely changed what love meant to us in our marriage and that pivoted our brand, mission and goal in a major way. That pivot is what grew our audience to what it is today.
The cliche “secret” to building an audience is being authentic. Consistency is also important and not just in how much you post but how much you post about the SAME narrative each time as authentically as possible. You don’t have to share your deepest secrets or even share you personal life but using your story to build your brand and audience will always promote trust and loyalty. Who we are online is who we are in person and that will always be a competitive edge in the world of social media.
