Financial Literacy
To better prepare students for a fulfilling life and career, I would integrate hands-on, practical experience from successful entrepreneurs into the education system. This would include mentorship programs where students learn directly from those who have built businesses from the ground up, focusing on foundational skills like acquisitions, mergers, collaboration, and cross-selling. Additionally, I would prioritize mental health and building confidence through programs that teach resilience, stress management, and self-esteem.
For instance, in my own career, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of learning through real-world experience. When I first ventured into healthcare, real estate and insurance industry, I had the privilege of working closely with seasoned professionals who shared their proven strategies for raising capital, leveraging debt, and optimizing tax strategies. This hands-on guidance was invaluable in building my businesses and achieving financial independence.
Moreover, practical modules on how to buy and sell businesses, raise capital using other people’s money (OPM), and invest in real estate as a wealth-building tool can empower students to achieve long-term financial stability. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A significant moment of resilience in my business journey occurred when I had a partner who attempted to dissolve one of my companies without my consent. This company was something I had built from the ground up, putting in countless hours and effort to ensure its success. It was a challenging and disheartening situation, especially because I had trusted this partner.
To add to the complexity, the same partner then tried to dissolve the business we had established together. Faced with these challenges, I knew I had to stay focused and resilient. I sought legal advice, fortified my understanding of business law, and navigated the tumultuous situation with a calm and strategic approach. Ultimately, I was able to protect my interests and ensure the continuity of my businesses. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, legal knowledge, and the need to have strong safeguards in place within any partnership.
Question 2: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
For anyone just starting out in fields like healthcare, real estate, creative marketing, or event planning, my advice would be multi-faceted:
1. Build a Strong Foundation:
Focus on understanding the fundamentals of your industry. Take the time to learn and gain experience, whether through education, mentorship, or hands-on work.
2. Develop a Resilient Mindset:
Challenges and setbacks are inevitable. It’s important to stay resilient, keep a positive attitude, and view obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow.
3. Network and Build Relationships:
Your success will often depend on the relationships you build. Network with other professionals, join industry groups, and seek out mentors who can offer guidance and support.
4. Prioritize Mental Health and Confidence: Entrepreneurship can be stressful, so it’s crucial to prioritize your mental health and build your confidence. Take care of yourself and seek out resources and support when needed.
5. Stay Adaptable:
The business landscape is constantly evolving. Be willing to adapt and innovate, staying current with industry trends and technological advancements.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
One of my most memorable marketing experiences occurred when I first ventured in the space of eastern medicine was in the business of alternative medicine. I landed my first big client to organize a health and wellness event, but there was a catch – I had no team at the time. With only 45 days until the event, I faced the daunting task of assembling a team and pulling off a successful event.
The pressure was on, as the event was expected to attract between 40 to 60 customers. Despite the odds stacked against me, I was determined to make it a success. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work, leveraging every resource at my disposal.
In addition to traditional marketing methods like word of mouth and boots-on-the-ground efforts, I knew I had to think outside the box to make this event stand out. I tapped into my creativity and utilized every available platform to promote the event, through my personal connections.
As the event date drew closer, I faced another challenge – I had no prior relationship or trust built with the client or vendors. However, I remained undeterred and approached the situation with confidence and professionalism.
On the day of the event, I poured my heart and soul into ensuring that every detail was executed flawlessly. Despite the initial uncertainties, the event was a resounding success. Not only did we meet our attendance targets, but we also exceeded them, with a turnout that far surpassed expectations.
But the success didn’t end there. Thanks to the event’s success, the spa saw a remarkable increase in sales revenue and membership – a staggering 30% boost. This achievement not only validated the hard work and dedication I had put into the event but also solidified my reputation as a reliable and effective marketer.
Looking back, I felt a mix of emotions – from the initial anxiety and uncertainty to the exhilaration and pride of pulling off such a remarkable feat. It was a true testament to the power of determination, creativity, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
