We were lucky to catch up with Britainn Aldridge recently and have shared our conversation below.
Britainn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
When starting any business your first supporters are your family and friends, opening a bakery the first people you get to experiment recipes on are your family and friends! So it’s a huge deal when you get your first real client! I remember like it was yesterday. We received an order on our website shortly after announcing the site launch on Instagram. It was for a birthday party, she wanted bite size bundts, which we didn’t offer yet! We wanted to make her birthday special, so we happily accommodated! She ordered 100 bites! We were so excited we did a happy dance! I personally made sure her order was perfect, even delivered it myself! She ended up reaching out the next day expressing how delighted she was with everything! With her permission we reposted her experience on our Instagram and website. Her order caused us to upgrade our menu and now it’s one of our most popular sizes! She will forever have a place in Bundtiful’s heart!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started Bundtiful Cakes in March 2020 at the peak of the Covid pandemic. Like most I lost my job and needed to make ends meet. Opening a bakery that specializes in bundt cakes made the most sense to who I am. It all started when I was a young girl watching my mom make these beautiful creations out of nothing. I was so intrigued by the process, that I was always offering to help! I fell in love with baking and always dreamt of opening a bakery with my mom one day. Shadowing my mom and grandmother really helped me to master my craft that I followed my moms footsteps and eventually started to sell decorative cakes in high school. Fast forward to the pandemic, the extra time to myself made me realize this is the perfect opportunity to start my dream! Now we’re in 5 restaurants across Los Angeles from Culver City to Chatsworth, we’re constantly growing and I am so proud of our progress and is looking forward to seeing what the future brings!
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
One of my most memorable moments is right after we launched our website! We got our first order for a birthday party and she requested 100 bite sized bundts! Which we didn’t offer yet! We wanted to help make her birthday special so we happily accommodated! I made sure iger order was perfect! I even delivered it myself! She loved the bites so much that she reached out an expressed how much everyone enjoyed them! With her permission we shared her results on our social media and website, and because of her we added bites to our menu making them one out our most popular sizes! She will always have a place in Bundtiful’s heart!! I love this story because it shows that the customer is always right!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
When building a business there’s multiple ways to growing clientele! After trying most strategies I’d have to say the best one is and will always be word of mouth. Word of mouth is the best because people trust honesty especially when it comes from someone who is close to you! Being a virtual bakery, we had to take that approach a little differently. Mainly relying on social media , we gave out free samples and posted reactions! Everyone loved them and you can see their honest opinions on video! We flooded our feed with reactions and I believe that is what helped us grow the most!
