We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brionna Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brionna, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I have always been what one would call a “risk taker”, honestly when I think about it my entire career has been based on taking risks. In 2014 I quit my job after only months of having my first child to pursue cosmetology school where I soon graduated with my cosmetology license, now I must admit that my risks were not always carefully calculated as I would like. Shortly after graduating cosmetology school I felt so drained, lost, and unsure of how I wanted to continue to pursue this career with so many different paths. For the first 1-2 years of my new found career I was overwhelmed and unfulfilled, what I thought was my passion soon began to fade away leading me back to corporate america. In 2017 I took interest in herbal and natural healing due to my daughter’s skin condition that would cause painful and itchy flare-ups. I began to research making different remedies like oats and honey washes and carefully watch what she ate, soon discovering that dairy was the cause of her skin condition. This then drove me to start creating natural herbal products that I would sell at trade-shows, online, and to friends/family as an alternative. A year later, in 2018 I wanted to help more, what I was doing wasn’t enough and I still had this dire need to use my cosmetology license, something I worked so hard to earn. After getting some encouraging advice from a dear friend that was also in the beauty industry, I stepped into my new role as a wax specialist, at a franchise company. After only a few months I took yet another risk and stepped-out on my own with a salon suite where I specialized in Brazilian Waxes for Women. I continued to make natural products like scrubs and moisturizers for my clients, but yet again it is still not enough for me. I began to notice that some of my clients had deeper concerns and may not have been properly educated. This sparked even more of an interest for me causing me to delve deeper into herbal and natural healing remedies. I soon began to enroll in not only herbal courses but also courses that pertain specifically to the woman’s reproductive system, nutrition, holistic healing, and connecting with others who’ve successfully healed women of reproductive diseases. Fast forward to four years later, I’ve shared this ancient knowledge with my clients, produced healing products, wrote books, and had the opportunity to connect with over 20,000 people worldwide to share my knowledge, all because I took risk!
Brionna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mother to two girls, NC native, a holistic health practitioner, certified nutritionist, certified master herbalist, and self-published author specializing in reproductive and women’s health with experience in medical astrology and placenta encapsulation. I’ve always had this deep connection with women and for years I’ve seen family, friends/clients, and even my self deal with issues that I’ve always felt like needed more attention. The healer in me knew something had to be done so I began to research and connect with other healers to not only heal myself from inconsistent periods but help other women heal from there concerns as well. I believe that true healing begins with a deep understanding of the root causes of your issues, and then taking the steps necessary to create sustainable and lasting changes in your life. My eclectic approach is designed to bring balance, harmony and vitality to the body, mind, and spirit. I’m most proud of the little impact I’ve made, I have women being more intentional about what they put on and in their body with an understanding of how it might effect their womb, herbal healing is becoming less taboo, and women are realizing that they have everything they need to heal right in front of them nature, mind, food, and spirit.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely Not! Being a Afro-Indigenous woman in this kind of space and this day in time is golden, I have the ability to share my knowledge with more women, I have the means to connect with other like-minded souls, and I have the support of my community. I truly feel like I am walking in my purpose.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I first started my Womb business it was strictly product based and I would share education on my Instagram. This all changed when my perspective shifted, I began to realize that although these women are getting the healing it was still a lack of understand of what was going in there body and this I did not like. So I did what I do best and took a risk and possibly compromising what was already a successful business, and changed things up. My business was no longer somewhere women could go to buy a product to fix your concern like a pharmacy, it was now a business where you learn how each herb works in conjunction with your concern, and what nutrients and foods are needed. “A healer is not someone that you go to for healing, A healer is someone that triggers within you, your own ability to heal yourself.” and that’s just what I did. I now have guides with those same herbal recipes with a comprehensive teaching on how it works inside the body, and options to create your own herbal blend so you’re in complete control. I’ve also written books breaking down the root causes of common reproductive dis-eases with holistic ways to heal.
