We recently connected with Brion Dillard and have shared our conversation below.
Brion, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Making a full-time living from my creative work is something that has come in waves for me. Finding that consistent stride in creating a income solely from all of my creative talents has been challenging. Sometimes it’s as simple as if you don’t work you won’t earn a dime. You have to be very intentional on how you show up for your self and for your business because the earning outcome is the telling results, lol and lets face it no one likes to be broke.
Entrepreneurship is a love hate relationship. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve quit on myself when times have been difficult. But one thing I can say is being consistent with promoting my products and services helps bring in more traffic to my website www.Bristyles.co, and eventually your zero earning months turn into 2 to 30k months! With my continuous efforts, I have had the pleasure of being signed to Texas Glam Agency for influencers which I’m super excited about. And also I have earned a partnership collaboration with Cota Skin! So that is proof that if you keep pushing it can be done.
I’m a first generation business owner in my immediate family, and if I knew back then what I know now with making that much money all at once, I would have budgeted better, sought out a CPA and invested more back into my business. Even though I come from a cooperate background 9-5 type of environment, nothing can prepare you for the abundant overflow until your thrown into it. This is my 6th year of doing business and I can honestly say I continue to learn from my mistakes and keep striving to be better then what I was when I first started.

Brion, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Most people know me from my custom apparel business F.E.M (Freely Expressed Movement), which I still am the owner and operator of. And most recently I’ve stepped in the space of fashion and lifestyle content creating and digital media, even though I have been creating content for about 4 years now.
@BRISERVESLOOKS across all social media platforms has taken on a life of its on and I love that for me! When I tap into my special powers of creating a complete look from head to toe and ministering to a broad audience of the most supportive, creative people it gives me a tingling feeling all over my body. It’s where I shine and that’s how I know I’ve found my purpose. I receive so many inboxes from people asking for my advice on fashion and just things that I’ve expressed that I’ve experienced and even though it helps them, Its a form of therapy for me. With such an engaging following it’s shed a light on me bright enough for brands to start taking interest, so I’ve been polishing up my skills and my goal is to build strong brand relationships for partnerships, so stay tune for that!
I’ve currently started a new website to house a few accessories that you might see in some on my pictures and reels that are available for purchase, www. Bristyles.co. You’ll also find my catch phrase” YOU WANA GRWM….LETS GO” T-shirts on the site. Also with the outpour of interest in my video editing skills, I’ve started to promote and market my editing services to individuals whom either want to learn how to edit themselves with my CapCut Bootcamp, where I teach them how to create seamless transition videos, or those who rather just pay for convenience and have me create a custom video for them.
I have recently created my new website www.Bristyles.co that houses all of my new best selling products, So make sure you check it out!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy of growing not only my clientele but my target audience is very simple. I be me 100% of the time. I don’t try to portray myself to be anything that I’m not. And that level of transparency can’t be sold in any store and makes people gravitate to me. It creates a space of trust that entice people to purchase my products and services because the proof is in the work I display to the world.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is meeting my supporters from online in the real world and them being so excited to meet me. Or when people see me and they recite my catch phrase ” You want to get ready with me… Lets go: to me lol. It warms my heart and show’s me that my talents are not going unseen and are inspiring others.
