We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brinley Steen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brinley below.
Brinley, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I took the risk of not going to college and following a traditional career path. Instead, I chose to follow my dreams of being a model and actor – along with that came social media and content creation. At times I do wonder what my life would be like had I gone to college and started working a “normal” job, but overall I wouldn’t change anything about my current lifestyle. Through this line of work I have met the most amazing individuals, and I feel that I have learned more about life and people than if I had chosen the traditional route.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a 22yr old model, actress, content creator and social media marketer. I dove into this industry at 17 and I haven’t looked back since! I started by signing with a modeling agency, then a talent manager, and content creation soon followed.
Since our world is ever changing, so I find it important to be skilled in different areas. When I’m not on set, I spend my days running a PR business, social media accounts, and making user generated content (UGC).
The most important characteristics to carry with you throughout any line of work is your sense of self, open mindedness, and adaptability – having lived it myself, I truly believe these can take one farther than any amount of experience.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is watching dreams come true. In these industries, people are various ages and come from all walks of life. Some accomplish their goals right away, and others not for years. Witnessing friends, coworkers, or clients be proud of their accomplishments provides a sense of encouragement in itself! It’s rewarding to watch hard work pay off.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The journey of my social media growth began in the COVID era. During this time, the modeling and acting industries slowed down immensely – so I had to find work. It became obvious that consistency would be key, and it was extremely beneficial to engage with those who had similar interests to myself. Not only did I post frequently, but following, messaging, and engaging with other accounts really got the ball rolling.
My advice to those who want to build their social media presence would be to use resources, reach out to others, and to not get discouraged during trial and error. Overall, it’s important to stay confident and truly believe in what you’re working toward.
