We recently connected with Brigitte and have shared our conversation below.
Brigitte, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is one that is in the works. I am very excited to release my debut album in 2025. Since my last EP release in 2020 a lot has happened in my life, including having moved across the world to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an audio engineer. When I moved here I know few people but felt compelled to follow my dream of working in music. Some of the songs on my upcoming project are autobiographical and others are abstractly inspired, but in all of them I felt myself progressing as a songwriter and artist, which is exciting to me as I continue to experiment with genres and styles. I feel really lucky to have met Baolu Chen shortly after moving to LA; she is a talented music producer who helped bring the album songs to life with the production. I will be sharing more about the project next year so stay tuned!

Brigitte, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a music artist, songwriter and audio engineer. Growing up in Belgium with its public music school system, I was exposed to classical music from a young age and played violin and piano. As I had taken violin lessons throughout my school years, I wanted to continue lessons in university. As I continued in my education I realized I wanted to pursue more than just performance of music. When playing classical violin on a recording session during my freshman year of university, I saw the recording console and felt a rush. I decided I needed to learn what all the buttons did. Playing in and observing that student recording session, I felt and saw another side of music that I had not experienced before and that to me felt creatively inspiring. That session helped inspire me to pursue audio engineering professionally.
I provide mixing, songwriting and recording services for artists, songwriters and producers. Something that sets me apart is my classical background. Playing violin classically was great training for working as a mixing engineer as for many years it helped train my ears for pitch and timbre. One problem I solve for clients is helping to elevate their music to sound commercial quality. I am always mixing in a musical way and thinking “does this decision serve the song, and is it enhancing the emotional impact?” After all, the goal of mixing is to elevate the songwriter’s art and help communicate their message.
One thing I am most proud of is my adaptability. In mixing, songwriting and as an artist I am always experimenting and trying new techniques and learning about new genres. I try to work with different people and genres to develop my craft and stay creatively inspired. Although I like to do many different roles in music and audio, in each task and role I strive to improve in a systematic way.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of my biggest goals is to create songs that inspire people and inspire change. Music has the potential to change the cultural landscape and has a far reach across countries and cultures. Another goal of mine is to help mentor and inspire women in audio.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As a mixing engineer, I love working with artists and helping make them sound better. As creatives we can be sensitive about our work, so having a mixing engineer “in your corner” that understands the artist’s side can not only help the song sound great but also help build the artist’s confidence. The most rewarding part of being an artist for me is helping to put emotions into words, and making songs that might help other people.
