We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Briggsy Hamren. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Briggsy below.
Briggsy, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
At the moment, I execute and oversee all content creation for a curated clothing boutique that cultivates elevated, inspiring collections from global emerging designers and specialty artisans. Content creation is one aspect of my role that continues to excite me, specifically when it comes to styling and shooting House of Lolo’s collections.
Style is a deeply personal form of expression, and for me, finding a brand that spoke so much to my personal style, has really allowed my passions and my profession to play off of each other in a very natural and progressive way. When I create content for House of Lolo it usually starts by picking a specific piece from the collection or some sort of theme that I want to play off, and then from there I try to style that item or idea in a way that shows its versatility, its timelessness, and what it makes it special. When I create content for House of Lolo it’s about the clothes, or the shoes or the perfume that I’m shooting, but it also feels like an extension of myself. It’s an avenue that allows me to reflect current taste, forward thinking outfit combinations, and elevated takes on classic everyday wears. The clothing itself speaks volumes, but expressing that so clearly and purposefully to the community our brand has built both locally and online, is something I really I am so proud of.
House of Lolo continues to evolve and remains at the forefront of fashion and luxury while still playing in that elevated everyday space, which allows me to continually feed my own inspiration and inspire others through the content I’m able to develop for our social media, marketing, and e-commerce.
Briggsy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Earlier this year, I accepted a Brand Director position for a collective of three businesses that span across all facets of home, design, and living. The collective is made up House of Lolo, an elevated, curated boutique for the modern individual, Lolo Interiors, a design firm and retail shop, and Lux Box Agency, a real estate and vacation rental agency, all in located in the El Paseo Shopping district of Palm Desert, California.
I started working for the collective a little over two years ago, at the tail end of the pandemic. I had just moved back to California after living and working in Dubai for a few years after I graduated college. At that time, I was working as a social media manager and brand designer for a financial services company. Before then, I had worked a whole host of internships and sales positions which exposed me to a range of industries like tech, beauty & aesthetics, events and financial services. My major in college was marketing, but when I graduated from University of San Francisco, I didn’t have a decided trajectory, I could see myself working in a variety of industries, so my plan was to try out as many things as I could until something stuck.
Fast forward to 2022, and I had just started a new position with House of Lolo, working in their flagship retail store. It wasn’t long before I started getting involved in content creation and eventually took over the brand’s marketing about 8 months in. A few months after that I was promoted to Digital Marketing Manager for House of Lolo as well as Lolo Interiors and Lux Box Agency. I loved that position so much that I started taking on anything else that I could to be more involved in all of the businesses. One year later, I was promoted again, this time to Brand Director which is my current position.
Currently, I develop and oversee brand strategy along with the companies’ founders, maintain and evolve the brand’s identity, oversee all brand communications, manage all marketing campaigns, foster growth and connection within our communities, create a majority of our content with the help of our amazing team, as well as strategize and collaborate to achieve our business goals.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
If my career has taught me anything, it’s that I have to love what I’m working on. What really drives me is that feeling of creative fulfillment when you have a finished product that just lights you up. My goal is always to be excited by own work and feel in alignment with every project I work on.
With that understanding, it makes me even more grateful to have found the companies that I work for now. Having the opportunity to develop my capabilities, express myself as a perpetually evolving individual, and essentially always be trying something new, has created a truly unique environment where my creativity feels free flowing.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The best thing you can have, especially as a marketer, but also for any profession, is a mentor. If you can find someone who believes in you, lifts you up, and can teach you, you’re already unstoppable, no matter where you’re at in your career. But if you haven’t found that person yet, the next best thing you can do is listen to podcasts.
After I graduated college, I started deep diving into social media, trying to learn as much as I could about it. I had this draw towards it and even though at the time I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with it, I knew I had to learn everything I could. So I did all the courses and watched all the YouTube videos, but to this day, the resource that I still reference is a podcast called “Social Media Examiner” with Michael Stelzner. It’s like a beginner’s how to guide, everything is really digestible, accessible, and most importantly, actionable. The podcast has gotten so big that they now host a massive conference every year filled with experts, the latest tools and tricks, everything.
When I was first starting out, having that centralized resource for so many incredible experts and schools of thought had a huge impact on my confidence. It was so practical and straightforward in an industry that is anything but, and having that clarity really propelled me forward in both my ability and my mindset when it came to the work I was doing.
