We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brielle Bethune a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
When I first began my social media influencing journey, I was in the fashion and beauty industry. However, I was also posting travel and other things that didn’t really fit into the niche. I received pr packages occasionally but wasn’t getting paid collaborations and my followers weren’t growing. Essentially, it wasn’t going anywhere. So, I took a step back from myself and said “What am I doing wrong? How can I actually help people with my influence and my content?” And THAT’S where my journey really begun. When I stopped using social media like my personal diary (which is fine, but not if you’re trying to grow and monetize) and started thinking about the content other people would want to see, it was game changing. I decided I wanted to niche down to hit a specific audience. I’m from a small town in Washington, living in the Phoenix area for the past 4 years and I started hearing the phrase “Arizona is so boring! There’s nothing to do” and I compared where I was living before and thought to myself, that’s crazy! All of the cities in the valley and especially Phoenix always have events to attend and new businesses open! You just need to research and be-in-the-know. That’s when I decided I was going to help Arizona locals stay informed and actually have fun in the state they live in!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
AZFOMO… AZ = Arizona, FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out, so as I say: “FOMO no mo’!” I now have an event calendar on my website, AZFOMO.COM that I update weekly and on Instagram I post event lists and roundup weekly and monthly! I film myself going to brand new places and showing the best hidden gem activities and restaurants around. I help small local businesses get the exposure they deserve and I am actually producing valuable content now in which I have seen so much success and responses from my new audience.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Doing my research! Staying up to date on the new businesses opening, reading through multiple news sources and paying attention to posts on Instagram. Also OUTREACH! Putting myself out there, sending those proposal emails is so important to get started especially when you don’t have a management company to do it for you. The more effort I put in to find brand collaborations or to connect with business owners and those running events, the more success I see! It’s all up to me.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I consider myself to be a very creative person, I always have new ideas! The most rewarding part is when I feel good about every video I put out there as if it’s a masterpiece. When I spend hours filming and editing to perfection and putting everything together, I feel very proud of my work, especially seeing the progress I’ve made! It’s also a great feeling when the companies I work with compliment my work, and when my fellow content creator friends tell me that my videos are looking better than ever!
