We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brie Zoller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
The idea for my sustainable interior decorating business, Re.Living Co., took root during a personal project—remodeling our bathroom. Sustainability has always been a core value in my life, so when it came time to update our space, I was determined to do it in a way that aligned with my environmental ethics.
Instead of heading straight to big-box stores, I challenged myself to source as much as possible secondhand. I scoured Facebook Marketplace, browsed the aisles of Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and hunted for hidden gems at local resale shops. The result? A stunning transformation where 90% of the materials were pre-loved—and at a fraction of the cost. A $1,500 vanity? Snagged for $600. $400 worth of tile? Scored for just $150. Every piece I found sparked creativity, and seeing it all come together was incredibly rewarding.
That project wasn’t just about a remodel; it was a revelation. I realized that sustainable sourcing isn’t just good for the planet—it’s practical, cost-effective, and allows for a unique, personalized aesthetic. I also knew I wasn’t alone in this mindset. Denver is a hub of eco-conscious living, and I saw a real opportunity to merge my passion for design with my commitment to sustainability in a way that would serve my community.
That’s when Re.Living Co. was born—a creative business dedicated to helping people reimagine their spaces in a way that’s beautiful, intentional, and kind to the planet. It’s more than design; it’s a movement toward a more thoughtful way of living.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
It all started with that home project, and that experience sparked something in me: a realization that eco-conscious design isn’t just a niche concept, but a practical, creative, and affordable way to reimagine interiors.
What Re.Living Co. Offers
At Re.Living Co., I help homeowners and businesses breathe new life into their spaces while minimizing waste and overconsumption. Whether it’s a full-scale room refresh, sourcing unique secondhand decor, or providing guidance on low-impact materials, my goal is to prove that sustainability and style go hand in hand.
I specialize in:
Sustainable Interior Decorating – Designing stylish, functional spaces with eco-friendly and secondhand elements.
Pre-Loved Sourcing & Styling – Finding high-quality, secondhand furniture and decor that align with my clients’ tastes and needs.
Creative Repurposing – Reimagining existing pieces to reduce waste and bring fresh energy into a space.
The Problem I Solve
Many people want to make more sustainable choices in their homes but don’t know where to start. Others assume that eco-conscious design means sacrificing style or quality. That’s where I come in. I bridge the gap between sustainability and aesthetics, helping clients create spaces that reflect their personalities while reducing their environmental impact.
What Sets Me Apart
Sustainability is at the heart of everything I do—not just an afterthought.
Creativity fuels my approach—I see potential where others see waste.
I make sustainable choices accessible and attainable—without breaking the bank.
What I’m Most Proud Of
Beyond the transformations I create for my clients, I’m most proud of the impact Re.Living Co. is making in normalizing secondhand and sustainable design. I want people to see that a thoughtful, beautiful home doesn’t require mass production or excessive spending—it just requires a fresh perspective.
What I Want You to Know
If you’re looking for a way to refresh your space without compromising your values, I’d love to help. Whether you’re a homeowner seeking a mindful redesign or a business looking to create a more sustainable environment, Re.Living Co. is here to prove that great design can be both beautiful and responsible.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My reputation within the sustainable styling space has been built on genuine relationships, active community involvement, and a deep commitment to shared values. Long before launching Re.Living Co., I was deeply embedded in the sustainability community—as a member of Women in Sustainability and Good Business Colorado, and through years of hands-on volunteering in the Denver Metro area, and serving sustainability-focused clients through my first business, Brie Z Operations.
This involvement gave me a solid foundation of trust and credibility before I ever opened my doors. I wasn’t just starting a business; I was extending the work I was already passionate about into a creative, service-based offering.
I firmly believe that I’m a community member first and a service provider second, which makes every connection I build authentic, not transactional. The people I work with aren’t just clients—they’re friends, fellow sustainability advocates, and collaborators in a larger movement toward conscious living. This approach has set me apart, because my business isn’t just about interior decorating—it’s about creating meaningful change in the way we design and live in our spaces.
By leading with purpose, transparency, and a commitment to sustainability, I’ve cultivated a reputation that isn’t just about design expertise, but about trust, integrity, and a shared vision for a better way to create homes and spaces. That’s what makes Re.Living Co. more than just a business—it’s a community-driven movement.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
For years, I believed that success meant climbing the corporate ladder, earning a prestigious title, and securing a hefty paycheck. That’s what I had been conditioned by society at large to strive for, so I spent a decade chasing it—only to find myself more stressed, unfulfilled, and disconnected from what truly mattered to me.
The turning point came when I took a hard look at the leaders ahead of me. They were even more overworked and overwhelmed than I was—was that really the future I wanted? On top of that, I was working in industries that didn’t align with my values, leaving me feeling like I was constantly compromising a part of myself. But for so long, I thought I had no other choice.
Then came the 2020 COVID shutdown—a forced pause that gave me the space to reflect. After multiple bouts of burnout, I finally acknowledged that I had the power to redefine success on my own terms—if only I could find the courage to take that leap.
It’s still a journey. My paycheck isn’t what it used to be, but my life is infinitely richer. I’m living my values, deeply connected to my community, and, perhaps most importantly, I have the freedom to spend time with my family—because I own my schedule.
Success, I’ve learned, isn’t about titles or income brackets. It’s about alignment—building a life that reflects who you truly are and what you truly care about. That shift in perspective has been the most valuable lesson of all.
