Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brie Chester. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
I had a close friend who I noticed did not support my business. She would not repost or share anything nor would she shop. I started to see her promote the businesses of others and shop with their brand. Although I was hurt by her actions and did not understand the lack of support, I decided to put myself and my business first by distancing myself from her. At first I felt bad but I soon grew to realize that true friends will encourage you and will repost or share your good news without you asking. It was a hard lesson to learn but very valuable especially for small business owners.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born and Raised in Shreveport, LA, my name is Brie Chester & I am a self taught makeup artist & beauty influencer. I started in the beauty industry when I was 16 years old. As a teen who struggled with acne I used makeup to hide my impurities. Now I use my talents to enhance the beauty of others.During the pandemic I launched an online women’s clothing boutique. Since then I have merged my makeup business and my clothing business to create a beauty empire. Miss Brie Makeup has been fortunate to service clients from diverse backgrounds. Beauty lovers may get to know me better by following my journey on YouTube @ Misss Briee.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot many times in my business, career, and life. In business my first big pivot was deciding to merge my online women’s boutique with my makeup business. I decided to make this change so I could focus more on growing my makeup clientele and growing a true makeup following using clothing as a additional service. Currently I am transitioning from Miss Brie Makeup to becoming Miss Brie Beauty. This change will allow me to promote my makeup and clothing business as one single entity. Aside from that I would also like to escape the ordinary 9-5 job and become a full time entrepreneur.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being a creative has come with many challenges for me. I experience seasons where I lack inspiration and seasons of doubt as well. In these times of despair I always amaze myself at how well I’m able to persevere. I remember doing a clients makeup for her senior homecoming dance. This client always tested my limits. As I was doing her makeup I had a voice in my head telling me I could not complete the look, that i would fail etc. By the time I finished the look it was a true masterpiece and my client loved her look. Throughout the process I truly wanted to give up but with a little trust in myself I completed the look and cherish it as one of my best makeup applications to date.
