We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brie Burgett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
My first duty station in the Marine Corps provided me the opportunity to live in Okinawa, Japan. For the three years that I lived in Japan I took every opportunity to travel throughout Asia exploring as many new places, cultures, and experiences as possible, from taking a red sail junk cruise around Halong Bay in Vietnam to climbing the ancient pagodas scattered across Bagan in Burma. I joined Instagram and started sharing my adventures on the platform and as I posted more unique destinations and shared my solo travels, I received more and more questions from other travelers about the specifics of my trips. Eventually I decided to capture some of the most useful tips I have learned over the years on a travel blog. I built it to share highlights from the over 100 countries I have traveled to so far, give recommendations for how to make money while traveling and many hidden travel gems around the world.
Brie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It is exciting to share some of the highlights and lessons learned that will hopefully spark some inspiration for others to learn about destinations off the beaten path and go on their own adventure travels around the world! My travel blog eventually led to becoming a travel and adventure writer for the Freedom Sister Magazine to share more creative ideas for unique destinations and ways to make travel easier.
While there are so many great travel blogs that exist today, I try to focus on the areas that I have gained a lot of experience in over the last decade including solo travel talking about ways to stay safe and social while exploring alone and adventure travel for some of the wildest and most extreme sports and activities to do around the world.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I hope to inspire others to chase their dreams for traveling and breaking the mold. It is easy to postpone dreams for when conditions will be better and there is more time to go on a big trip, but someday is the most dangerous word in the dictionary! No matter where you are today, it is the perfect time to take a step towards becoming exactly who you want to be!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Finding a community that you love and providing content that gives value to others is important for building a recognizable brand on social media. Once you have a clear idea of how you want to use social media, it is important to stay engaged and build relationships which is what keeps people coming back for more as they get to know you.
