Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bridgett Ladd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bridgett, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My life purpose mission statement: I am a person of purpose here to inspire women in overcoming adversity by writing and creating stories for women by women..
Bridgett, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a writer and director. from Atlanta, Georgia. I started my career as an actress in LA but when the phone didn’t ring as much for auditions. I started to write my own content and I joined writing classes. I didn’t start to produce my projects until I moved back to Atlanta. In late 2015, I was honored to have a very informative interview with Legendary producer, Cassian Elwes. He advised me to ” just do it, don’t wait, create your own content and get them into film festivals. Two months later, I began casting Atlanta actors for my short, Wounded Hearts which later won “Best Screenplay at the TPN film festival and later produced a Sci-Fi short “Conflicted”. Now an active member of Alliance of Women Directors and Women of Color Unite. I write screenplays and shorts for my production company, Janies Daughter Productions and for other local producers. I also work behind the scenes with her mentor, author/filmmaker Chuck Brown/Expected End Entertainment.
My SAG/AFTRA low budget short film “The Other Man” which was an official selection at Pan African film festival, Baltimore, Twin Cities and Charlotte black film festival and is now streaming on Genre TV.
I recently produced and directed my first feature documentary, “Motherless Daughters” which is now in the film festival circuit. I’ve collaborated with filmmakers Tracy Tolliver-Caldwell on her web-series “Diva Interrupted” and I wrote “Beautiful Sacrifice” for Larry Person/Sankofa film house Productions. I currently write with my writing partner Andria Chappell (Chappell Entertainment) which we’ve created “Draft Divas”. We’ve written a supernatural Thriller, “Hartwell Highway” and a biopic “The Robert Boggs story.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The main resource would be applying for grants. There’s money/funding out there we just need to know how to obtain it. I spent alot of money creating my own projects. Thank God I’m good at budgeting my finances.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I consider myself a p.o.p- a person of purpose. My stories are about women for women overcoming adversity
