We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bridget Jenkins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bridget below.
Bridget, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Thank you so much, I am grateful to be given the opportunity to share my story. My dominate background has been in the beauty industry for over two decades, serving women, through makeup, skincare, personal styling and more. I learned early on that what you identify with will shape your identity, be it true or false.
In 2009, while taking biblical classes, God began to speak to me about my identity. While the classes were not about identity, He showed me areas where I was viewing myself through the lens of others and not who He created me to be. He also showed me how other women were also struggling with the misconception about their identity. What is identity? Merriam Webster’s dictionary says: Identity is the unique set of characteristics that can be used to identify a person as themself and no one else. In Genesis 1:26-27 it says…”And God said, Let Us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over ALL the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27. So God created man in His Own Image, in the Image of God created he him; male and female created He them.” When we identity with God, and His image, we take on His Characteristics and we start to identify with Who We Are, What We Possess, What We Can Have and What We Can Do, while living here on earth. When this happens, the force of purpose will arise, worth and value is ignited in our lives and communities.
However, the opposite is true when we allow people to determine our worth or we look at what we’ve done, where we live, what we drive, etc., and through this thinking, we deny ourselves of fulfilling our God given assignment for life. Identity is our key to embracing God’s imprint on our lives.
With the Voice of God in our hearts, my husband and I were able take my background experience and create innovative workshops, and establish a thriving ministry. We are beyond elated! We execute workshop that build a woman’s spiritual path and provide them with practical skills regarding physical fitness, nutrition, makeup, skincare, personal styling, finances and other life skills, and from this, “Beauty Is, Inc.” was born, a faith-based non-profit organization providing spiritual and physical education.
Our workshops are practical and profound, giving our participants the spiritual education and physical tools needed through our Image Consultants, which will help them reach their God-given assignment for life, build stronger families, communities and the world. We are a powerful catalyst for change.
While our organization is open to all women, we have an expressed focus on women in jail re-entry programs and their families, along with those who’ve been through any mental/physical challenges, which may have compromised their ability to embrace their identity. Additionally, to date, we are happy to announce as of February 2024, we have added incarcerated men to our assignment as well.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Thank you again, we are absolutely elated to share. My name is Bridget Jenkins, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, affectionately known as Ms B or BJ, I’m a wife, mother and Gigi. My dominate background has been in the beauty industry for over two decades, serving women, through makeup, skincare, personal styling and more. We are passionate about helping men and women identify with their God-given identity, for I learned early on that what you truly identify with will shape your identity.
In 2009, while taking biblical classes, God began to speak to me about my identity. While the classes were not about identity, He showed me areas where I was viewing myself through the lens of others and not who He created me to be. He also showed me how other women were also struggling with the misconception about their identity.
Because of this and with the leading of God, I founded Beauty Is, Inc., a faith-based organization, where my husband, Keith and I, help women and men who are incarcerated within jail, as well as the families they left behind, those from safe-houses, or from any challenged background. My husband and I count it a privilege to serve God through serving people to build up the Body of Christ.
With the Voice of God in our hearts, my husband and I were able take my background experience and create innovative workshops, and establish a thriving ministry. Our workshops are tailored in providing spiritual education through the gospel of Jesus Christ and practical life skills, through physical fitness, nutrition, makeup, skincare, personal styling, finances and other life skills through our Image Consultants, which help them reach their God-given assignments, build stronger families, communities and the world,
We are proud of the work God has allowed us to do, through the changed lives in salvation, seeing and hearing the testimonies about their understanding of their identity in Christ and the new decisions they’ve made that have propelled them into their futures. Dear readers we want to remind you that if no one else loves you, know that you are on the mind of God and He loves you. We believe Jesus Christ is The Way, He is The Truth, He is Life, and whatever you need, He has the answer, you only need ask for help, we are here for you.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Consistency and Authenticity, Loyalty, Laughter and Love. With these five pillars, we have built our organization.
Consistency: Without being consistent, people cannot trust you and they will not change.
Authenticity: If people do not see that you are genuine and that you will speak the truth in love, they cannot relate. People don’t want to know of much you know, until you show them how you genuinely care about them.
Loyalty: When people see your support and allegiance, you have gained their attention and they will to listen to you.
Laughter: Laughter is one of life’s keys to breakthroughs, walls come down, fear is eliminated and light shines in darkness.
Love: Love is a spiritual weapon, everyone will know you belong to Christ when you love one another, we are indebted to love. John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Without love people have no desire nor need for change.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Simply, word of mouth through the change that’s seen in others.
