We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brianne Daul a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brianne , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Born and raised in Northern New Jersey, we are famous for many things- especially the hit series “The Sopranos”!
Many of the scenes were filmed around where I grew up and I’m so proud to be from New Jersey. The show featured a strip club called “The Bada Bing ” and it was filmed at a real strip club by the name of “Satin Dolls”. Since my last name is Daul, I thought it would be a great nod to my Jersey roots and Satin Dauls Boudoir was born!
All of my collections are named after Sopranos characters – Meadow, Carmela, Livia, and the biggest collection is The Bada Bing! Clients always laugh and get the connection immediately. It’s a great conversation starter!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been a creative person. I grew up dancing and was even a dance teacher for a few years. I was always connected to the arts in one way or another and when I got married and had my first child, I kind of lost that. I became a stay at home mom and all my focus was on my family. I think that rings true for most of us. I eventually found a new creative outlet when I discovered children’s fashion.
My daughter was my doll and I used to enjoy dressing her up and photographing every single look that I created for her! What really hit me was the joy I felt behind the camera, so I purchased an old, used DSLR and a 50mm lens and that’s all it took to launch my family photography business! I binged on Pinterest and YouTube tutorials and learned all I could about photography. I loved capturing families and always had some over the top creative set to go along with my mini sessions. The market was so saturated with family photographers that I was determined to stand out and stand out I did! My husband was always tasked with building something new and I loved how people would book with me because everything was so unique.
Since I was trying to always stay creative, the summer of 2020 led me to a bit of burnout. I was making decent money from my business but it was just a bit of pocket money and I felt like I was putting in so much effort into this business that had little reward…until boudoir came and changed my life. I stumbled on a male boudoir photographer’s Youtube education account and that’s all it took to show me my new path!
Boudoir has taught me so many things about myself and the more stories I heard, the more I realized that we’re not all that different. I truly believe this world needs a change. We need to accept and love our bodies as the beautiful and strong entities they are – and and even more so, we need to see and love ourselves for the glorious, amazing beings that we are. I love doing that for all women. It was incredibly important to me that all women saw themselves reflected in my work – Black, Asian, White, curvy, tall, skinny, etc. Representation matters. I want EVERY woman to feel safe with me, SEEN, and HEARD, while looking like the ultimate baddie that they are. It’s amazing what happens when you give someone their confidence back and I’m so lucky to be able to do this every day!

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One of my proudest and favorite moments as a boudoir photographer was when I received a call from a beautiful client who was also wheelchair bound. She was getting married and her wedding planner gave her the name of another photographer who didn’t specialize in boudoir. Once this photographer heard she was in a wheelchair, she ghosted her. She googled “NJ Boudoir” and I was the first one to pop up. When she emailed me, I immediately responded and got on the phone with her and she told me her story. She was paralyzed with limited mobility in her arms and asked if I could make her feel sexy again. I immediately said yes. I had never worked with a disabled person before. I was worried about how I would pose her, how could we incorporate her chain in shots, HOW THE HECK WOULD I GET HER INTO MY BUILDING?? I’m on the 2nd floor of an old building without elevator access or a ramp. That sent me into a panic and I told her that I was fully confident that we would create magic together but my biggest concern was getting her in here. The rest would work itself out. Well, her adult sons disassembled and reassembled her chair and she came in and had the most amazing shoot! Her daughter in law stayed to help move her but we all became such a team. It was incredible. She hadn’t felt beautiful since her accident ten years prior. It was one of the best moments of my career and life!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’m always posting on social media and I make sure that every single body type and every single race is represented. As a woman of color, I want to be the face for Black women in this field. It’s important to put yourself out there on social media so people can get to know you. Be silly with reels, be in your stories, show up and the clients will come.
