We were lucky to catch up with Brianna Willis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brianna , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Event planning can be a full-time job. However, it is a side hustle for me. I needed to supplement my income from my full-time job as a Para-professional. My niche is planning parties. I was always the family member who set up celebrations and parties and I became good at it. So, when I needed to make extra money, I thought about selling my services to persons outside of family for parties. I tested my idea with friends, first. They loved having someone they knew in charge of their parties. After a few successful parties, I decided to create a business for event planning, specializing in parties for children and adults.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Please provide as much detail as you feel relevant as this is one of the core questions where the reader will get to know about you and your brand/organization/etc I am very social, organized, detail-oriented, and has a flair for entertaining and coordinating events. I have planned hundreds of successful birthday parties for children and adults, bridal showers, retirement parties, school parties and pool parties. I offer theme parties which include all decorations, games and activities for the honoree and guests, music, food and clean-up. The host’s job or responsibilities are to be present and have fun. My clients tell me that what they enjoy most about my services is the economical cost, I am easily assessable by phone, by email and Instagram. They especially like that my company does all the work and clean up after the party. I am followed on Instagram and Facebook and that is where I get many of my customers. I also get many customers by word of mouth. Customer referrals are the best confirmation that I am providing a quality service that is needed.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Using my creative vision to develop the theme for a party and then executing it and bring it to life. Watching the participants enjoy my creation is the ultimate joy.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being flexible these past two years during the covid epidemic was challenging and required quick thinking. Customers were restricted from inviting guests to parties which decreased requests for my services. I had to modify my business model almost overnight to keep my business going. I offered virtual parties where the guests were virtual and I decorated the honoree’s party location, used live performers for entertainment and live-streamed the activities. I delivered in advance to each guest, party favors, cupcakes and ice cream to be consumed with the honoree.
