Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brianna Wallace. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Brianna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Working in the cosmetic industry, I would always be stopped and asked how I did my eyebrows. After explaining the process, I noticed immediately the energy would change. The conversation would go from being positive to negative just that fast. I noticed women would say how they couldn’t achieve this look on their own, they didn’t have time, or that their natural brows aren’t as thick as they used to be. In those moments, I couldn’t help but to empathize. I knew first hand how it felt to want something, but not know how to achieve the desired look. When I started my business, I wanted a place where clients could come with questions and receive the answer and a tutorial simultaneously. The mission behind my brand is the enhancement of one’s natural beauty. I wanted them to walk into any room with an aura of confidence that is unexplainable, yet easily attainable.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Brianna Wallace. I have always been passionate about the skincare and cosmetic industry for many years, even prior to becoming a licensed Esthetician. I am the owner of The BrowsbyBree Beauty Studio, where my mission is the enhancement of one’s natural beauty. I am located in Memphis, TN, where I specialize in Brow & Makeup Artistry. Clients are offered various beauty services that can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Services include Brow Waxing, Full Glam, and Soft Glam makeup applications. I want my clients to enter my studio knowing that their questions are always welcomed and will always be answered.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
After being in business for two years, there are numerous lessons I had to unlearn. However, one lesson that stood out the most was accepting my lack of consistent clientele, and instead trusting in God’s divine timing. Starting out, I knew that I would have to do more than just post about my business, in order to gain a consistent clientele. I was fully aware that nothing happens overnight, but I still had a distant thought that always said maybe. In the beginning, it was very discouraging to look at your schedule and see it empty. Looking back, I can honestly say that I needed those moments, they taught me that there will be days where you don’t have clients and other days when you do. I would ask myself “what are you going to do?”. Yes, you can cry and trust me I did sometimes, but what are you going to do after? Are you going to sit and wallow, or are you going to fix it? In those moments, I would find something that needed to be tweaked, my website, the email blasts, my services, my business cards, practicing makeup ideas, or researching a new soft wax, there was always something that needed to be done. So I did it. Being a business owner, you will wear many hats, and it was important to me to learn as many aspects of my business as I could during my slow season. Did I have days where I cried and asked God to send me clientele, absolutely. But knowing what I know now, it wasn’t time for me to have clientele, because I probably wouldn’t have been able to handle it. I needed that time to learn how I wanted my business to flow, how I wanted my day to day schedule to be, was I truly happy with the brand of wax I chose, all of which are questions that I probably wouldn’t have had time to answer if I started with a consistent clientele. When I was in the midst of it, I would have days filled with doubt about what He was preparing me for, but He & others definitely reminded me to keep going. I’m eternally grateful, because now I know He was helping me refine the foundation of my business.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Prior to starting my business, I was a senior at MTSU, majoring in Intermediate Studies, hoping to one day teach third grade. Growing up, I was always told that I should be a teacher, but I knew deep down it wasn’t my passion. While working in the cosmetic industry, I was often asked if I was taking clients for Brow Tinting or Waxing. I would always answer that I wasn’t, but it started to feel as if God was trying to tell me something. He knew I wasn’t passionate about teaching, but I didn’t know where to even begin on starting my own business. I’ll never forget the day I decided to withdraw from MTSU, I knew it would be hard telling my family I wasn’t going back to MTSU, but I kept reminding myself that I wanted to do something that I was truly passionate about, something that didn’t feel like work. Once I withdrew, I attempted to enroll in Paul Mitchell of Murfreesboro, but my work schedule conflicted with school. I felt devastated, like I made the wrong decision withdrawing from my university. However, 2020 was the year that changed everything, I enrolled into an esthetician program closer to home, and I was able to graduate by November 2020, licensed by February 2021, and I opened my business by August. Looking back, I can wholeheartedly say that God had a plan for from the very beginning, from the lack of fulfillment from teaching, to scheduling conflicts with Paul Mitchell. He knew the exact time I would be able to bring my passion to life, just because it didn’t happen when I thought it would doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Just remember don’t give up, plant your seed of faith and watch your dreams become a reality.
