We were lucky to catch up with Brianna Rose recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brianna, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I actually love this topic and I feel like it’s very important for new upcoming business owners to know the real and not what they see on Instagram. I’m a business owner and still work a 9-5 and it works for me. I’ve been owning Bri Rose Hair CO. for about 5 years now and I have always had a regular job because when it comes to having a business thing won’t always be busy or a steady income and I’m speaking for myself. My business will retire me from my 9-5. However, having more than one income is better than one. If you want to become a business owner, you have to know how to be a worker and when to adjust and adapt. People say if you want to be a business owner you can’t have a 9-5 but look at it from my point of view. If you have a 9-5 that pays your bills and then you have a business that is bringing in a steady income, you will just stack that money you are making from your business and also put it back into your business. Don’t get me wrong you can still spend the extra income on yourself but make sure you are putting some money if not more back into your business, this is where I went wrong. Instead of me putting back into my business I was spending and should have been investing and making things better. Mind you this is when i first started Bri Rose Hair CO, I was young and new of course I’m going to make mistakes but i kept getting back up and coming back stronger each time. I’ve also learned to be grateful for where you are, and instead of wanting more to make sure you can handle what is in front of you. Business isn’t always pretty and glam, it gets hard, and everyone have a slow season. The slow season is where you find you strength and really have faith. Of course, its easy to just give up. Stay in your lane, focus on your craft and stay consistent. If you still have a 9-5 and want to be fully committed to your business, before leaving your job just make sure you have a plan and money put up for a rainy day. If you jump in the water, just make sure you are able to swim.
Brianna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the owner of Bri Rose Hair CO. I have been running this brand for about 4 years now. We offer custom made wigs, bundles and different types of laces. All of our custom wigs are made on a sewing machine, so you are able to be comfortable in your wigs and not have to worry about any loose tracks, you are able to wash your wigs. With the proper care your wig can last up to 3 years or even longer. I like to offer care services for my clients, if you want me to wash your unit and bring it back to life for a low cost, i am your person. I started making wigs for myself with a hot glue gun because i didn’t know how to sew by hand and when I moved to Houston my friends started wanting wigs and I’m like okay i need to learn how to sew by hand. Once I got the sewing down, I was able to really expand my business to the public. A year after I learned how to sew by hand, I taught myself how to make wigs on a sewing machine. Things really took off for me when I started making my wigs on a sewing machine. YouTube taught me everything about when it comes to making wigs, I am self-taught. Mind you I didn’t really know anything about hair.
What sets my business apart from others would have to be the different styles we offer and the amazing customer service. I really like to create a comfortable relationship with my clients because they are spending a lot of money o my product and I want them to be able to trust me with their money and know that they are going to get what they are paying for. I feel like customer services plays a big part, when your clients trust you, they will come back.
I’m most proud of my progress and even though I’m not where I want to be I can say I haven’t given up just yet. I trust God and I’m for sure trusting his process and when it’s time for my business to bloom it will. I am hoping for new clients from all over the world to shop with me. I promise you will not be disappointed. I am also proud of what I built and the relationships I have created with my clients from all over the word and I’m just excited to see where God takes my business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn how to stop being greedy and wanting more when I already have everything that I need. I can honestly say that the old me use to be so focus on what’s next for my business and unhappy with where I was currently at. I had to learn the hard way because business got so slow for me, I took a step back and was like I don’t think this is for me because what is going on, but I’m a woman of God so when I set back and had a talk with myself and really analyzed. I thought business was slow, but it wasn’t until God showed me what a slow business is. The lesson I learned here is to be grateful where you are in your process and really trust God and the process because its building charter and preparing you for what is next.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My best advice when it comes to building your audience. I would say make sure you know your target audience and what your audience want or like. What also helped me build my audience was doing giveaways when I first started out. People love a good giveaway and it brings a lot of attention to your business.
