We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brianna Pineda a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brianna, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Earlier this year, I took the biggest risk of my life and left my full-time corporate job. I had been there for nearly five years, right out of high school, during which I built amazing friendships and worked under some of the best leaders. Initially, I received a great opportunity that allowed me to reduce my hours to part-time, giving me the flexibility to focus more on my business. After a few months, I decided to leave altogether to fully dedicate myself to providing my clients with the experience and attention they deserved.
Through this journey, I discovered who my true support system was, learned how to take the leap and invest in myself, and gained insight into how the small business world really works. Was I scared? Absolutely—but it made me stronger and taught me resilience. So far, I’ve been very successful, and I love pursuing my dream.
Brianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been in love with the beauty industry for as long as I can remember! It all began when I was a little girl, sitting in my room with my mom’s makeup and a mannequin head I received for Christmas. I would spend hours watching YouTube videos, learning how to braid my hair and apply makeup.
In 2021, I attended cosmetology school in Denton, TX, and earned my license. Shortly after, I graduated from a makeup academy with a Makeup Artistry Certification. In 2023, I decided to expand my skills and began offering lash services. Now, I am a certified lash technician based in Aubrey, TX. Whether you’re a bride needing glam for your big day, a senior celebrating a major milestone, or someone looking for glam for a special event, I’m here to be your beauty bestie!
I grew up surrounded by beauticians, worked in salons, and have always focused my passion on all things beauty. My goal as a service provider is to help women feel beautiful by enhancing their natural beauty—not “fixing” or changing it. My clients are my pride and joy, and they make this career so rewarding. I aim to make your experience relaxing, uplifting, and tailored to bring your dream look to life. This career has always been my dream, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to achieve financial freedom. When I have a family, I want the flexibility to be actively involved in my children’s lives without the stress of making ends meet. My goal is to work hard now, while I’m a young adult, so that when I decide to start a family, their future is secure.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I love the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. While much of the book focuses on Kiyosaki’s experiences in real estate, it’s packed with valuable lessons. He discusses financial literacy, retraining your mindset, investing in assets, and owning businesses. This book has completely changed the way I think about financial freedom and has given me the courage to take the leap.
One of my favorite quotes (though not from the book) is, “If you don’t start somewhere, you’ll never get anywhere.” It’s so true! Whether it’s mastering an imperfect updo or fixing a crooked eyeliner, you can’t reach your potential as a skilled, talented hair and makeup artist unless you start. Kiyosaki emphasizes a similar point in his book: if you don’t step out of the rat race, you’ll never achieve financial freedom.
