We were lucky to catch up with Brianna Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna , thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
When I think about my legacy and how I want to be remembered, I want people to know I loved expressing myself and being adventurous. Of course one of the ways I express myself is through fashion. I feel like that’s the best way to make a statement without words. The best part about it is, I get to continuously introduce myself. As far as being adventurous goes, I like to try everything at least once. To gain a new experience and to say I’ve tried it before I say I don’t like it. I don’t want to live with any regrets. I also love traveling to new places and learning about different cultures or customs. I think it’s important to expand your horizon. It keeps us from being closed minded. I also want people to know I loved people and genuinely cared for them. There’s still so much I want to do to help others that are in situations that I’ve been in. I want them to know they’re not alone. There are people who empathize and want to be there for them.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those that don’t know me, I am a Creative Director/Wardrobe Stylist. I came into the fashion industry after I had a revelation from God. One day I was sitting down thinking about how I wish I was creative in some way. Immediately after that, the next thought was but you are. It started coming to me how my friends would always come to me for fashion advice or how an artist I knew always asked me what they should wear when they were going to events. It was that day I decided to become a Creative Director/Wardrobe Stylist.
The problems I solve for my clients are what should they wear and where to get it from. A lot of my clients need help picking out their outfits for vacations, events they’re attending or hosting as well just wanting to revamp their wardrobe. I am honored to help ameliorate that stressor for them. I also help bring their visions to life whether it’s an event, photoshoot or video shoot. They give me the concept and I work with them to make sure it all comes together just as or even better than they’ve imagined.
I’m most proud of having an outstanding rapport with each of my clients.. They entrust me with their looks. Sometimes that may mean it’s for one of their biggest life or career moments.. For me that’s huge deal because your image is how you present yourself to the world. Another reason why it’s a huge deal is because my clients share information with me that is sensitive such as their insecurities. Not many people are privy to those facts about them and they have put their faith in me to help them with that.
I want potential/ future clients to know that we will always have a good time. I love to laugh. So, I am here to help you look AND feel good. Also, you can contact me at anytime. I’m here for you and your fashion needs.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
It’s not necessarily a lesson but I had to unlearn that everything doesn’t need to be perfect before you do something. I thought everything needed to be perfect before I decided to become a Creative Director/ Wardrobe Stylist. Such as I thought I needed the name, logo, LLC, business bank account, business plan etc. I’ve learned that you just have to do it and you gain more information as you go along. Honestly, that’s the best way you learn. Trial and error has to happen within any business before it becomes successful. It has definitely been the best teacher for me in business as well as in life.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective ways I’ve been able to grow my clientele is networking. I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter if you’re great at what you do if no one knows about it. You have to get out to events, introduce yourself, make connections and nourish those connections because you never know when they may need you for a job. The other way is through client referrals. It’s very pleasing to know my clients were so satisfied with my work that they referred me to others. I pride myself in giving my clients the best experience possible.
