We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brianna Edwards. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brianna below.
Hi Brianna, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission/purpose it to awaken, enlighten, and orchestrate through design. When I was a young girl I felt out of place. I knew I was destined for greatness, like I had a higher calling. Over time the universe placed me in/around individuals, situations, places, and things that would alter my outlook on reality – good and bad. I knew that I wanted answers. I wanted to seek the truth. You know when you’ve been called weird so much in life you ALMOST believe it. I did believe it and knew that it was because I saw life differently and that the individuals around me didn’t understand my purpose. Over time, I went through several awakenings and heard it clear as day. Brianna is to awaken, enlighten, and orchestrate.
Brianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Brianna Edwards. I am a 27 year old Design Extraordinaire. I studied Interior Design and Apparel Design and love all things design. I am a Fashion Designer, Creative Director, Interior Designer, and Graphic Designer. I offer services that include, but are not limited to Custom designs, Styling, costume designs, all things fashion, event curating, creative directing for companies/brands, personal consulting, Graphic designing, etc.
I started designing at the age of 9. I saw patterns, shapes, and colors differently than most and loved to create. I would style and reconstruct looks for my friends growing up. Though my creative stripe did get me into trouble for not wanting to conform in school with simple dress code regulations, I still knew I was different. I would make myself, along with my friends, cheer bows to wear to school and games. I was never into the sport itself, more so the design of it all. I would go into furniture stores and recreate displays and would get in trouble even if customers liked the new ideas more (laughing uncontrollably). I finally landed a $10,000 first place scholarship for Interior Design and shortly realized that I did not want to go to school for just one design passion and so I began my journey as a Fashion Designer. My first fashion show was a push and it led me to do the many shows I have done, including volunteering for some big name shows as well.
I’ve recently rebranded my brand ‘Who.Is.Geminii’. My brand celebrates individuals who are or would want to be Avant-garde, Eclectic, and Chic (SHēk)!
I specialize in design, meaning I do not limit my own creativity. I create designs for women, men, children, plus size and maternity. I design elegant gowns, avant-garde streetwear, eclectic ready-to-wear, and boisterous-like costume designs for all. So you see I’m not the stereotypical designer, because I am creating a lane for myself, I understand this now. I am Geminii! I recently gave a debut at my first solo show in November. This show was important because it was the first time I told the public about the upcoming things I would be contributing to the community. I partnered with the MTSU FADS organization and created a ‘Geminii’ scholarship for minority students who have an interest in design. I love giving back with a purpose and I felt that it made perfect sense since I did attend the university.
‘Who.Is.Geminii’ will be a house-hold name for many reasons. Not just for providing a new evolution for the design world, but because I understand and recognize the bigger picture – my purpose! My goal is to awaken, enlighten, and orchestrate the new age and the individuals to the forefront and I will achieve this no matter the obstacle.
I was given a talent and didn’t understand it at first so I faced a lot of delays, but everything does happen for a reason.
If I could leave one important thing behind it would be my wisdom/knowledge. The more information and guidance an individual has, the closer one becomes to the ultimate goal. Free yourself by becoming the individual you were meant to be. Limitless!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I love giving a testimony to my resilience. I’ve faced so many challenges, betrayals, and low moments in my life. Most of which from individuals I considered friends/mentors/family even. My heart is so big and I tend to over give once I know an individual – Empathy is a curse and a blessing. I once allowed myself to be apart of the distraction itself. I lost myself within the partying and assisting others in budding their brands and lost sight of my purpose. I’ve lost everything and gained it back in a matter of days, like the places I’ve lived in, vehicles I’ve owned, clothes I’ve owned – all material and all falsely attached to it. I had to realign myself and realize that it was a distraction and refocused myself. I started aligning myself with like-minded business owners or individuals who were able to give advice and wisdom.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner is Ashleigh Yancy, she is The founder of Ayjah Clothing Company. I met her in my History class at MTSU in 2017 or 2018. My history teacher would always tell me I looked “Trendy” when I would come to class, but this particular day she went too far (laughing nervously). She said over her microphone to the auditorium-like class room, “Doesn’t she look stylish, how did you put these colors together? Oh and your hat is a great look!” I literally died of embarrassment walking up the steps. The students were all giving me this weird stank eye, except one person. It had seemed like a light was shining over her. I looked up and saw Ashleigh smiling and waving at me to come and sit beside her. She questioned me and asked if I were in the fashion program and I said, “No, I don’t see myself going to school for something that comes naturally- it’s a passion.” She then tried to convince me to check out the fashion club along with the upcoming fashion major fashion show that put together annually. Long story short( I had gotten accepted and they showcased my piece and so I switched majors.
It took a few years for me to admit my influence within the fashion community – I ran from my talents for years, she’ll tell you. I thought being creative in the design world was super normal.
Fast forward, we realized that opportunities would only come to us specifically out of our group of friends more than to groups themselves. We also realized we are like-minded and that what I lack she has and what she lacks I have. We compliment each other really well in the design world. My style is loud in your face and her style is more conservative, but still in your face. It’s hard to not notice us in any room we’re in. We have some huge news we’re set to reveal to the public really soon!
