We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brianna Dinkins . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brianna below.
Brianna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The name of my business is called Generations 360. The reason it is called that is because the idea was for this to be a family business. I got my first job when I was 15 at Kmart and the corporate world just seemed like a shady place for such a young person. With that being said, I have four younger brothers and two younger sisters, all of which I want to grow up in an employment environment that meets their needs. That allows them to be creative, allows them to be their true selves, allows them to make hard decisions and work on their problem-solving skills without being micromanaged. I felt that this business would be a perfect way to immerse them into young entrepreneurship and be accountable for their own personal and economic growth. While also having a schedule that is flexible with their school schedules and extracurricular activities, and allows them to still make decent money.
With that being said, my siblings were my why, as for the what, being the 360 video booth, there’s nothing like making memories. Especially in today’s world of thriving technology, there’s nothing like looking back and seeing an active smile, nothing like hearing somebody’s voice recorded, nothing like watching a 32 second clip of one of the best nights of your life. Generations 360’s main focus being family it only seems right to want to bring that sense of love and connectivity to the people around us. That is why I chose to do a 360 video booth because it gives us the opportunity to help capture people’s best moments. There is nothing like bringing joy you can replay over and over again.
Currently, two of my younger siblings are working on the Generations 360 team. At the young ages of 17 and 18 they are thriving and learning more about being independent and accountable for themselves, than I could have ever imagined at that age. With their help we are bringing the Generations 360 experience to friends and families all over the Detroit and metro Detroit area.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there, my name is Brianna and I am a full-time registered nurse, but also the owner of Generations 360 video booth. My idea for my business came along because I was looking to make some extra money on the side when I wasn’t in the hospital, but I was looking for something that was light on the heart and filled with happiness. Although, I do love my job as a registered nurse, the last few years have been hard with Covid. It felt as if smiling was getting harder to do by the day. So, my idea was parties, everybody is always happy at a party, whether that be a corporate party, a birthday party, a wedding, a baby shower, or even a family reunion. It is hard to not laugh or smile when surrounded by family and friends. In today’s world where pictures speak 1000 words and a video speaks 1001 words. I wanted to be part of capturing and sharing those everlasting memories. Born was Generations 360 to help me do just that. My aspirations for this small business is to be a pillar and a go to resource in the communities of Detroit and metro Detroit, for the best experience to capture those special moments for people. At Generations 360 we strive to give the best experience with the best customer service and video quality there is to offer.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
So far, the most effective strategy for my business has been word of mouth. If there’s nothing you can count on you can always count on somebody knowing somebody else. Someone who’s going to have a birthday party, a baby shower, a wedding, etc. I have been blessed enough that the people around me are very supportive of my business and they will pass out business cards and flyers and share or re-post things on Facebook and Instagram. Although, word of mouth has been my number one pull in for business I know some more foot work on my end is needed. I have started marketing through emails with local clubs and venues, on top of creating and launching ads on my bigger platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I know that a lot of people say you can’t work with family, but here at Generations 360 our whole focus and what we have built our brand off of is family. With that being said my 17 year old sister is actually my business partner. Gratefully, we work very well together and although she is young, she brings a lot of good ideas and perspective to the table. My business partner, Jalaina does a lot of our creative work which includes our template overlays, social media content, and music engineering. All of these components are extremely important to our business for without them our videos wouldn’t be so “cool”. While she handles that aspect of the business, I am on the other side, reaching out to our clients, reaching out to venues and clubs, doing equipment ordering, updating, and maintenance. As you can see, she is the Ying to my Yang, and without either of us, there is no Generations 360.
