We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brianna Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brianna, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents have always been a major support & encouragement to my passion & career over my entire life. I would say one thing they did “right” was allow me the freedom with full support to explore my career early – I always knew what I wanted to do from an early age. It’s always been beauty. At 10 years old they allowed me to do $25 pedicures for our family members out of our living room, they bought all my equipment. I had a little business at home at 10 because of their belief in my dreams. I even tried college for one semester, after graduating high school, just because it seemed like the right next step. I remember being so miserable & just didn’t feel fulfilled, so I told my parents that I wasn’t happy & I didn’t want them to waste their money on school. I wanted my esthetician license. They helped me research schooling, they told me to provide them a game plan and they pushed me. I realize a lot of people don’t have that. Their support to this day is unmatched. I am forever grateful for them both.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Brianna Nicole Brown and I am the owner of B. Nicole Beauty Co. I am 25 years old, a true girly-girl and have been working in the beauty industry professionally for 8 years. I recently married my high school sweetheart in September 2022, just after launching my business in early 2021.
I’ve been a beauty enthusiast for literally as long as I can remember. While doing my mom’s, sister’s, family and friends makeup for years, I began to take my passion seriously immediately after my senior year of high school. Graduating high school at 16 years old, I started studying and training to become a licensed esthetician at Parisian Spa Institute. In addition to my forever passion for makeup artistry, I developed a new love for skin & brows, and graduated with my license in 2016 at 17 years old. I’ve been working proudly and professionally in the industry ever since!
I specialize in bridal makeup & luxury brow wax & tint services. I also offer facials, waxing, and makeup for any occasion. I’m newly certified in PMU brows, so I’m super excited to start scaling my business & diving into something new.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media pretty organically. I loveeee content creating & editing & all the things, so naturally it was fun for me to start up my platform create a “vibe” for my business on social media. Over the years I’ve learned to just be myself, and to not try to copy others’ style of content or even their style of marketing for their business. Creating a brand guide (logos, elements, color schemes, etc.) will really help you to stick to an aesthetic that will attract your ideal client.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helps is I’ve always cared a lot about the other person. I try to be myself, first & foremost. I build relationships & allow a space for open communication to build that trust. I think when even your colleagues along with your clients know who you are as a person, they understand your art more, the way you run your business. Also being extremely genuine & professional, and having a care for making them feel their best at all times. As far as colleagues/other market pros, NEVER gatekeeping. Always being super open & vulnerable & transparent about my experiences & even clapping for people. Collaboration over competition!
