We recently connected with Brianna Bergantim and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
Yes, Family and Pet Estate Planning LLC is dedicated to serving several underserved communities, including homeschoolers, blended families, and families with young or disabled children. These groups often have unique needs that are not fully addressed by traditional estate planning, and we are committed to helping them navigate these complexities.
For families with disabled children or loved ones, the need for careful estate planning is especially critical. Many of these families are unaware that they can create a special needs trust to ensure their loved ones continue to receive the care and benefits they need, even after they’re gone. Without this type of trust, a disabled child or dependent adult may lose access to government benefits like Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). A special needs trust allows families to set aside funds to care for their loved ones without jeopardizing these essential benefits.
Homeschooling families also face unique challenges when it comes to estate planning. Parents worry about what will happen to their children’s education if something happens to them. Without a clear plan in place, guardians appointed by the courts may not continue homeschooling, forcing children into public school. We work with homeschooling families to ensure their educational wishes are included in their estate plans, nominate like-minded guardians, and allocate funds to maintain their children’s education as they envision it.
Blended families also require special attention. Estate planning for these families is vital to ensure that stepchildren are treated fairly, inheritances are clearly outlined, and complex family dynamics are addressed. We work to ensure that every family member is considered and protected, providing peace of mind for all involved.
By offering affordable and accessible estate planning services, we bridge the gap between law firms and DIY solutions. Our goal is to empower underserved communities—especially those with unique needs like special needs trusts for disabled children—to protect their loved ones, their values, and their legacy. We are honored to help families make decisions that reflect their wishes, ensuring their future is secure and their children’s needs are met.
Brianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Brianna, the founder of Family and Pet Estate Planning LLC, and I’m passionate about helping families and pet owners protect what matters most. My journey into estate planning began when I saw that many people felt overwhelmed by the complexity of the process or were left with limited options—either expensive law firms or DIY solutions that didn’t fully address their needs. I wanted to create a business that provided affordable, clear, and personalized estate plans to families who needed them the most.
At Family and Pet Estate Planning LLC, we focus on crafting personalized estate plans that are designed to protect families, including the human and furry members. We offer will and trust planning services, as well as solutions for families with special needs children, pet parents, and blended families. One key service we offer is helping parents establish plans for their children’s care, ensuring that if something happens to them, their children’s needs, including their educational and caregiving requirements, will be taken care of. We also provide families with the tools to create plans for their pets, ensuring they’re not left behind or placed in a shelter in the event of a tragedy.
I believe what truly sets us apart is our focus on making the estate planning process as easy and understandable as possible. We work closely with each family to ensure they feel confident in their decisions and understand how their plan will protect them and their loved ones.
I’m most proud of the trust our clients place in us and the peace of mind we provide. Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for Family and Pet Estate Planning LLC has been email campaigns. We send out thousands of emails each month, and these campaigns consistently bring in nearly 85% of our new clients.
The key to our success with email marketing lies in how we craft our messages. We focus on delivering valuable, relevant content that speaks directly to the needs of our audience. By consistently offering helpful insights, resources, and solutions, we’ve built trust with potential clients and established strong relationships that lead to conversions.
Email campaigns have become a cornerstone of our marketing strategy, and their success underscores the importance of staying engaged with our audience and providing them with the right information at the right time.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
Both of my businesses were self-funded. From the start, I focused on keeping costs as low as possible by utilizing free trials and free programs. For example, Canva offers a free version for creating professional visuals, MailerLite provides a free option for email campaigns, YouTube is an incredible resource for learning marketing strategies, and tools like ChatGPT are fantastic for generating ideas, especially for social media.
Making the business affordable in the beginning was key for me. I wanted to avoid taking out large loans unless it was absolutely necessary, and this approach allowed me to grow steadily without incurring debt. Almost five years into entrepreneurship, I’m proud to say I’ve been able to avoid taking out any loans. It’s a testament to the value of being resourceful, leveraging free tools, and focusing on sustainable growth.
