We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Briana Wyatt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Briana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I started modeling in 2020. A lot happened that year, and a lot of adjusting had to happen with the changes. Back then, I was freshly 19, had a life changing experience outside of the pandemic, and decided that fear was no longer an issue. Why not take the risk? Honestly, I believe everything happens at the right time. If I had started a little bit before, I would have gave up because I lacked the confidence and bravery that I needed. I could have started later, but I really believe it was all aligned. I started when I was supposed to, and I would do it over again. I wouldn’t be the same today if 2020 me decided any differently.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! My name is Briana Wyatt, I’m turning 23 this year, and I’m a model. I got told that I should model all my life, and I never believed anyone until I started. I was so used to being behind the cameras that being in front of them felt foreign. Scary, even. I fell in love with it, though, and I’ve done it ever since.
I’m not just a model. I’m involved or wanting to be involved in anything creative—including music, photography, videography, art, acting (voice acting specifically), etc. Anything creative fuels me.
I think what sets me apart from others are my ideas. I have these dreams or visions that come to me—wild, crazy makeup ideas or concepts—and I love to execute them. I think I’ve created my own world, and at the start I didn’t have a lot of resources to invest in my craft, so I made my visions come to life on my own. I’m proud that I made that happen, but what I’m most proud of are the people that surround me. I am so grateful to be surrounded by so much talent, and to be seen by talented people. I’m so grateful to have the support system that I have. It means a lot to me. It inspires me.
I want people to know that I’m not in one box. I’m open to new ideas and concepts, and when they feel right, I will be happy to be a part of them! I love collaboration, and I would love to do it more. After all, any amount of minds combined is better than one.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There are multiple. Most of all, I want to be able to make myself proud and my family proud. I want to do what feels right to me—nothing out of character to get to where I want to be. We’re living in different times. I’m blessed to be able to navigate this industry without doing anything I’m uncomfortable with to succeed. I started modeling as a way to prove to myself I can: I can be confident, I can meet my goals and exceed them, I can feel beautiful, I can be brave, I can take risks, I can be better than the insecure teenager that I was, I can live up to my potential, and I can make my dreams come true. I want to see that happen, and it’s been unfolding so beautifully so far. I would love to see myself on a billboard of course, and a few commercials here and there… those are a few, but I want to succeed beyond my wildest imaginations. No matter what creative path I take, I ultimately want to enjoy what I do and continue to have cool opportunities come my way!

Have you ever had to pivot?
Of course! I feel like my life changes drastically every year, but the most recent hiccup I had was losing my car. Y’all know how Georgia drivers are, (if you don’t you’re lucky) and two people ended up crashing into me. One was in August and the other one was in November. All their fault. I don’t stay in Atlanta, so I have to drive everywhere to get to events, shoots, etc. In order to afford the new car, I needed a new job with a more stable income. I absolutely did not want a used car because I know firsthand how much you have to put into it. The last repair on my last car was like $1400! Anyways, it was a couple of long months of putting myself out there constantly, interviewing, not getting anything, stressing over my finances, etc. If you know you know. But eventually, I ended up with two decent options! That’s the latest struggle that I had to overcome. I haven’t been actively modeling this year, and that was also a struggle because I wanted to every day, but I also knew the standard and quality I want to upkeep. Now that I have more resources, I plan to make that happen.
