We were lucky to catch up with Briana Marshell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Briana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
Pure Bliss Studios is a production company started by myself and my business/writing partner and it is intended to make entertaining but educational content. We have an unspoken purpose through life’s experiences to shed light on difficult subject matters in underprivileged communities. As we journeyed through the entertainment industry, we have studied and learned several roles in filmmaking. Pure Bliss Studios was birth from our enhanced skill sets and built on being a one stop shop and production company for other storytellers around the world.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I first graced the screen as the talented and skilled dancer on the hit reality show “Dance Your A$$ Off”. From then on, I have continued to soar in the entertainment industry. With a love for acting, I enrolled in a virtual acting class in the summer of 2020, after a 10-year hiatus, and I teamed up with Bridgette to create work that would resonate in the hearts of people all over the world. Additionally, I am a social worker and I am inspired to create a voice for those who have been silenced by adversity.
After a life-altering car accident, Bridgette’s love and confidence for acting were tarnished. She feared that she was no longer marketable as an actress as well as a makeup artist. In an attempt to build her confidence and zeal for the entertainment industry, Bridgette enrolled in a virtual acting class. In this class not only was her passion for acting renewed, her passion for writing was also re-ignited. Bridgette teamed up with me and we have been writing and creating their own work ever since.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
In the summer of 2020 I enrolled in an acting class taught by Wendy Raquel Robinson at Amazing Grace Conservatory where we were tasked with the assignment to write a monologue. After presenting ,my monologue, Bridgette reached out to me and asked for us to partner up to complete a project she’d been working on and stopped due to life’s obstacles. I was apprehensive initially because I didn’t consider myself a writer but she convinced me otherwise. Despite being in two different cities and two different coasts we being to write and we completed the project Lowest Places: Lost Time which was initially a web series that we filmed via zoom with one other individual whom also was located in another state. From then we continued to write and 50 scripts later we are hear with a full feature film thats now streaming which was the web series and full production company called Pure Bliss Studios.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After creating our web series in 2020, we were recommend to check out the platform Clubhouse and we had no idea that we would meet and build relationships with some of the most talented creative that were passionate about the arts and are aligned with our mission. Fast forward to January 2022 where we decided to come to get and film a project as a collaborative. After 6 months of Zoom meetings and rehearsals, crowdfunding, and table reads we all met in person for the first time and successfully shot a 58 scene script in 4 and a half days. A year later it premiered and the overwhelming response has catapulted us back into pre-production as we continue to enhance the Lowest Places: Lost Time Franchise.
