Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Briana Lyn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Briana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would’ve started releasing music and getting more experience as an actor at a younger age. I always wonder what life would’ve been like had I moved away to Los Angeles sooner and pursued all my dreams.

Briana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my teaching career during college where I stumbled upon a Yamaha Music school in Minneapolis. Although I never envisioned myself teaching, it was something I grew into and developed a love for. I know I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without the incredibly talented and kind mentors that helped develop me as a singer, musician and teacher. Consequently, I have felt called to help others through music teaching and mentoring. As a vocal coach & music teacher, I have a vocal music degree with a minor in piano and am certified in the Yamaha Music Education System. As a classically trained singer and pianist with advanced training in contemporary vocal & piano styles, I’m able to offer my clients a wide array of expertise. I offer both online and in person music and vocal programs for musicians and singers. My clients can choose specific tracks to focus on such as songwriting, vocal styles, and audition prep just to name a few.
Along with coaching, I’m also a singer songwriter, session singer, and voice over actor. I write songs for tv & film as well as my own original music that I release as an artist. As a singer songwriter, I mostly write in the country pop genre. As a voice over actor, I specialize in commercial, animation, promo and podcast hosting. I am trained in both commercial & theatrical acting and have studied with some of the top acting coaches here in Los Angeles. As a session singer, I write top lines and provide vocals in a variety of genres including Pop, Country, Musical Theatre, Jazz and Folk for other artists in my home studio.
I have been singing and performing since the age of three, in front of audiences. Throughout my school years and into college, I was involved in musical theatre and drama. I have always loved expressing myself through both singing and acting. After taking a hiatus from acting post college, the urge to be on camera just wouldn’t leave me, so I began studying professional acting in Minneapolis. After a few years of studying there, I committed to taking my career to the next level by moving to Los Angeles in 2019.
I am most proud of how far I’ve been able to come on my own using my own business sense and taking advantage of whatever opportunities that have appeared along the way. I love working with other creatives in the music and film industry and have co-written songs with a great number of people.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I had been basically a teacher throughout my adult life up until moving out to LA. Throughout my career as a teacher, I always wanted to pursue my music performance and acting career, and did so to some degree as a event vocalist and musician, but I knew that I wanted more than that. I remember feeling very unsettled at many points in my life because I didn’t know how to take my career to the next level. I felt very stuck and didn’t feel entirely comfortable in the creative environment of Minneapolis. I knew I needed a lot of personal growth in order to have the right mindset to get to the next level, which for me, involved moving to Los Angeles. I started training professionally in acting and got additional training in music and business in order to move to LA. This involved adapting my business model to focus on both in person and online coaching for musicians and singers. I expanded my focus as a singer to include session work, voice over, songwriting as well as live performance.
In July 2019, I packed my car up and drove 2000 miles away from home to pursue my goals as an artist in LA.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have read a lot of books on personal development that have impacted me in a positive way as an artist and creative entrepreneur. One of my favorite books is The Artist Way by Julia Cameron. This book helped to uncover a lot of blockages I had as a creative and helped me find more freedom to express myself. The War of Art by Steven Pressfield was also a big influence in my development as it helped me to overcome self-imposed obstacles that hindered my progress. Another book that greatly impacted me was “Trust” by Iyanla Vanzant. It gave me the confidence to break free and actually move half way across the country to Los Angeles.
