We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Briana Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Briana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Both of my businesses was created from a personal pain point that I found myself in when I move to Las Vegas. With my clothing brand I wanted to bring fashion that had the designer look but not the designer price. I would see girls all look the same as each other and same as the mannequins in the windows of the stores, and knew that there was a market for women who want to look luxe, fashionable, and didnt feel like they blended in the Las Vegas scene. The nightlife is so prevalent here that often people forget that there is a day life as well and not every one wanted to look like the Vegas nightlife aesthetics. That is where Privee Label comes in I created collections that would be both sexy and versatile but in a chic and sophiscated way that would still be trendy for a certan age group. The Busy Girl Hustle came from missing the community and tribe I built back in Virginia. When I was looking for events that I could go to I never heard anything around town.Building and maintaining friendship and connection where hard to come by and impossible to find. So i created the busy girl hustle curate events that with both help empower women build event that would aide in finding like minded woman that you could grow a connecton with
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am 34 years old born in minnesota but raised in Newport News virginia. I graduated from Norfolk State University in may 2010 however I did independent studies at Old dominion University where I furthred my education in art and fashion merchandising. fast forwarding I always dabble in something in fashion whether it was a visual merchandiser, buyer, or store manager my experience always lead me to fashion. But my obession was paris I love the history, the culture, and the subtle but chic fashion. When i created the name for my business I had Paris in mine.Privee Labl isnt just another social media brand It is an lifestyle brand for the modern woman. Where alot of brands copy each other styles just to cash in, I curate an actual lifestyle that the everyday woman can relate to and see themselve in. With the way economy and society you want a brand that you know will prouduce collections that has styles that you can wear again and again and still be in style and on trend or season. I am proud of my brand because I have stayed true its brand voice and message that you can be sexy, you can be fashionable but you can also do it in a chic way that excudes confidence.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Alot of my audience is people that I have actually meet somewhere down the line whether back home in virginia or my time in las vegas, me traveling to different cities to do popup , or word of mouth.
But it just really me being really active on social media that i find more and more people who want to learn about Privee Label and come along for the journey. I love that about my followers I get dms all the time of encouragment, or someone sending me memes that relate because they feel like they know me. they may follow me personally and see me working or talking about things and that gets them even more invested into my brand. I really love and appreciate that.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
This question hits hard because my lesson is something im currently learning. Im so use to branding myself i sometime forget to brand my company separately from me. It has cost me because im learning im not posting what i need to to connect or inform mgy customer as much as i should because i have a habit of posting on my personal page things that should be shared on my business. and i think alot of us that run a business and is on social media is so use to sharing on our personal that we should be sharing and pouring into the ig profiles of our business and we would be so much further.
