Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Briana Coleman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Briana, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
What can I say? I get the beauty from my mom and the beast from my dad. Growing up with both of my parents, I was the only child. I do have two older sisters but I was the only child living at home. My parents sacrificed so much for me so that I could excel in various creative avenues to modeling and acting, ballet, hip hop dancing, broadway, pageantry, photography, singing live shows as a recording artist and endless violin, guitar and piano lessons to name a few.
One thing for sure, I was always a girly girl at heart and a daddy’s girl at that. My mom made sure that throughout every adventure I took to make sure I take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the gift and people I was surrounded by. My dad made sure that no matter what happens — win or lose — that I always pushed through and did my best like the beast inside of all of us.
When I first started onto my journey within the beauty field, I fell in love with my craft and the time it takes to enhance one’s outer beauty while embracing their inner-confidence. You never really know what someone is going through and personally the beauty field has brought me out even my lowest moments. I remember my first time going to Beauty and Health Institute in Tampa, Florida where I fell in love with electrolysis and medical aesthetics. I remember my instructors were Olga, Jennifer, Brenda and Cathy and the bonds I formed with some of my classmates like Peggy, Sylvia and Christina. I was in my element of a space where you could not only see but, learn, grow, thrive and feel the potential of others who too are in an industry that was meant for everyone. I know a lot of misconception in the beauty industry is surrounded by not being able to fit in but there is always a niche for everyone. I truly owe my knowledge within my field of work to my instructors and the great friends I have made.
I truly feel that my parents made me into a very well rounded individual by supporting all of my highs, lows and always pushing me to do better. For that, I am forever grateful and hold my childhood experiences close to me when I am servicing my clients by putting myself in my client’s shoes. This has impacted my career greatly as my clients come to me for an experience and not your typical short conversation hurry and get out approach other businesses stick to. When you know your worth and you know your abilities, nothing can stop me or you. In fact, nothing can even stop my clients from feeling like they were heard because they will always receive quality over quantity service.
Now that I have children of my own, I certainly have passed along my support for them in their future journeys because of the impact my parents made on me as a child that I carry on throughout my life and in my career. endeavors.
Briana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Certainly! My name is Briana and I consider myself a solo beauty-mom-preneur of Briana Haus Of Aesthetics. I got into this industry back in 2015 and never looked back since. I have been in business since 2017 between owning and operating within a brick and mortar location, traveling directly to my clients and offering select services home-based within my home. I offer services such as eyelash extensions, bridal makeup, body sculpting for both women and men as well as teeth whitening, skin care, nails, hair, lip fillers and more.
I got into this industry for various personal reasons but ultimately I want to bring a smile of joy to each client I service. Even though the service is materialistic, the customer experience is what I bring to the industry table. From that point, I know my job is worth it when each client leaves feeling that much more confident to tackle their day, event or whatever life brings them. I am a proud advocate when it comes to mental health and when a woman or man seeks personal care service as a luxury alternative to not wanting to do it themselves then I make sure I deliver that luxury experience they need for their well-being.
Outside of working in the beauty industry, I am a self-proclaimed tech-nerd. A fun fact about me that you would have never known or guessed is that I am also an IT software engineer and developer. Working in the IT field is very rewarding, flexible and I love it just as much as I love beauty!
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back, i’d say I would still choose my beauty profession. It was and has always been something that has come naturally to me. I have always been an introvert and a loner so being able to work for myself and by myself is something that my career has given me. Honestly, I remember working my first job as a teenager at 15 and I hated it. It was at that moment, I told myself i’d work a W2 job until I was 18 and become self-employed on my birthday. I kept that promise to myself and will never look back because working a 9 to 5 is not for me. I’m 26 years old now and still couldn’t imagine going back to working for someone else that doesn’t appreciate your worth and what you bring to the table to help the CEO and president thrive. In my profession, i’m all about goals for both women and men. So for those that get it they got it and for those that want to leave their day job to work a career that is rewarding then I’d say i’d do it all over again if I had too.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
As cliche as it sounds just be yourself! I can’t tell you how many times I have met people in my industry that are not genuine to only caring about the money. A lot of that I think has to do with their own self-reflection. When you’re yourself, your clients gravitate to who you are behind the brand. At the end of the day, the way you present yourself is your brand. A win is when you know who you are and a loss is when you don’t know who you are as it will effect your performance and your client’s overall experience.
