We recently connected with Briana Betts and have shared our conversation below.
Briana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I love this question! I am very much a happy business owner but recently have come to the realization of how hard it is to push through with one skill type.
Every year I like to shift a little to gain a new skill that can be grouped within the platform of my business.
While I have never hoped for a regular job, I often craved the transactional element of not always going to work carrying the weight of the world. Being the only person where things pass through for work can wear you down after a while but the reward of doing what you love balances it all out.

Briana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Eco-Conscious Event Company that specializes in Decor + Bar Services. I work with seasonality or local, organic products to produce a more farm to table feel with ways to cut back on waste. I compost my Floral Scraps, don’t use Foam or any chemicals with my designs while keeping things simple. In Bar Services, I make my whole menu mocktail friendly with herbaceous, organic mixes that are uniquely catered to my client’s taste or what’s availability locally. I decorate as well as drawn my own signage for a multitude of uses and most proud of my flexibility in this industry. I like to use the skills I have developed through the years to take on any ideas my clients have to switch up their event to be unforgettable!
My background is in Advertising so I also throughout the slow season of events focus myself back into Media services like content styling, video/photo and page management. These services are also useful in the event sphere but I try to keep my contribution to events to one lane to not overload myself.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
We can all relate to the pivot that Covid caused us to take! When my event world stopped… I had to figure something out quickly. I was very fortunate to have a background in teaching bartending or floristry classes and was able to do this virtually until the world became normal again.
I am so grateful for my connections in the industry who brought me along for this pivot! This saved me and also allowed my teaching skills to grow which I still use in my work today.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is something that I spent time off of before having a business. The irony of majoring in Advertising had brought me to a place where I only interacted with Instagram or Facebook for other clients. I had deleted my personal page then 3 years later – I started my business realizing this tool would be something I need. Since I saw the benefit it brought my clients, I wanted to do it … but differently.
I do not invest in coming off as a business on Socials but moreso as a safe landing page for people to enjoy my world. I think putting myself out as more of a person than a brand allows a light filter of seeing if a client and I can get along before we meet.
There are so many talented event service businesses out there – I want to be one that is a bit more connection based! I want to sell my service but also be a bit more tapped in to what I do and who I work for.
I like to make relatable content that comes from who I am while giving a window of what I can offer for services.
