We were lucky to catch up with Brian Rash-Zeigler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
In my opinion, market saturation is the largest contributor to the reduction of profits in the photography space. With the quality of cameras increasing and the affordability becoming increasingly realistic, more people are entering the space to stake their claim. I officially started my business in 2019, a few months prior to the pandemic. I feel I had more business during the pandemic due to the reduced level of competition. It allowed me to get my name out there a little more than I was able to in 2019. That being said, it’s always good to diversify your income to help reduce the pressure of the slow times.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been working with photography for a long time. It has always been a creative passion and love of mine, allowing me to express myself in ways I couldn’t with other mediums. I focus primarily on Event Photography, Portraiture, and content creation for businesses. It has helped me learn a lot about myself as an artist, professional, and the environments I work in. I also have the pleasure of working with so many wonderful clients at amazing venues. My goal is to provide a unique and personalized solution for each of my clients with outstanding results. I fully understand how important each client is to the success of the business, which is why my client care is impeccable. I take great pride in meeting, and exceeding, their vision and expectations. I love what I do and I would like to share that with you.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
So far, word of mouth and self-promotion have been the best way for me to source clientele. Since photography is personal, most clients want to know who they are working with and if they can work good with that person. I keep the vibe fun, yet professional. This allows for the client to be more relaxed and enjoy their session(s) more. Then, they are more inclined to share my information with others in need of photography services.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I utilize email communications, text messaging, and even calling when needed. It’s important to remind past/loyal clients that you are available and able to work. It also ensures the client that they are being thought of and not treated like a one-and-done.
