We recently connected with Brian McGuire and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have always been on the path of creativity and making it my living since i was a young child. I had a weird childhood and a strange up bringing and i have always believed it is part of why I can make a living with creativity. I first started making money from tv commercials, as an actor. then i was able to make a living as a DJ for about a decade, then I started writing and directing movies, and that was paying the bills. Then and most recently, it has been my art that keeps the lights on by way of the web3/NFT space. The world seems to always provide. I am never sure what will be next thing to help keep life moving will be. it is part of the adventure that is my creative adventure life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started out as an actor in Austin Texas. then moved to Los Angeles to push the acting but when i arrived, music opportunities where screaming at me, and I found myself making a living as a techno dj. I was loving it, but knew that I would return my focus to acting and making films one day. But for now music was speaking to me and teaching me! I needed the music world to get away and educate myself in fresh creative ways… I did return to acting, but i also started to write and direct, and fell in love with these new hats i was wearing. Then the world would provide us with big chancge with the pandemic. this is where my carear as an artist took center stage in my life. I found my self selling lots and lots of art, using lots of the skills i have learned along the way all coming together in the digital art would.
I have always been a creative Jack of all trades. as an actor the film In Search Of A Midnight Kiss was perhaps the most important film i did as an actor. The movie won the
John Cassavetes Award in 2007 at The Independent Spirit Awards. as a musician I had a song that charted at #1 in DJ Magazine in 2001. Sadly the label who we signed with went out of biz before they put our song out.
as an artist, I created the Bored Pepe Wax Club a collection of 6969 Bored Pepe’s and we sold out in 4 days. this was 2 months ago that we sold the Bored Pepe’s. And now I am just about to release a 6 part mini series that i wrote, directed, and stared in. The mini series is titled Rabbit Hole and it is being released on Omniflix.io We are launching promos and interviews with the cast as we lead into the 6 episodes.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are amazing! There is many many many ways for artist, filmmakers, musicians, all creatives, to use the wonderful tool that is the NFT! I am actively building and seeking out other creatives who work with nfts and web3. NFTs are the creatives friend!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
it is stressful at times for many who live for a creative life style. But i dont think its any different than any path you might take in life. life can be stressful and not easy. But if you want it, then you will always find a way forward. you will always find a way. find the fun in the hell of it, it makes it easier.
