We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brian & Lindsay Schlick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brian & Lindsay below.
Brian & Lindsay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Our business has evolved over the years, not necessarily when it comes to our Core Values, but when it comes to the types of clients we serve. We love working with small to medium sized businesses to help them succeed with their visual marketing online.
For over a decade, we’ve been working with our clients and community to create high-quality photography and video content and with that, we would also give them advice on how to use their new visual content to maximize their marketing power.
And so, after years of research, professional experience and teaching opportunities, we’ve compiled all of our best knowledge and insights so that we can offer our clients a more comprehensive service when it comes to marketing themselves online. We have really leaned in to the prospect of helping our clients succeed with their visuals. And when we say succeed, we don’t just mean with “likes” and “comments”. We want to ensure that your visual marketing content is helping you reach your business goals, whether that is more sales or reaching a new niche in your market. SchlickArt can not only help you with creating the visual content, but help you find success when sharing that content.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
SchlickArt is a photography and video company that began in 2012. Both Brian (video) & Lindsay (photography) have spent more than half of their lives working in this industry. When we started SchlickArt, our business was mostly rooted in female-empowerment and telling women’s stories, which we still offer to this day. However, a focus on creating similar photography and video for businesses became a natural progression for us, most because that is what our clients were asking of us.
Over time we have evolved to ensure we are creating more than just photography and video. Our goal is to have our clients leave any of our sessions confident in the fact that the product or service they trusted us to work on with them is exactly what they need to have a successful experience. Whether that is a new set of headshots or professional portraits, updated video marketing for their website or social media, or a visual marketing training session that we custom-designed to target your specific objectives and remove the roadblocks standing in your way – so you can craft a visual brand that’s beautiful inside and out.
Watching our client’s stress, fear, and uncertainty wash away is an amazing feeling!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We have built our presence on social media by doing two things.
One is being consistent. In order for any business to be successful on social media you must be consistent… and consistency can be different for everyone. Some businesses might only have the bandwidth to post 2-3 times a week, that’s ok, as long as you are consistent. Start with figuring out how consistent you can be and stick to it. If you find that it’s working and you have room in your schedule to add another day, then go for it. But don’t try to do it all at once and then fall off, going missing on social media for weeks or months is not a good strategy.
And secondly, we you have to speak directly to your target audience. A lot of businesses natural assumption is that everyone is their target market. But when you have that line of thinking your marketing tends to not resonate with anyone. For example, if you want to sell $40 bags of custom organic coffee, your marketing should not include message for all coffee drinkers. That product is for a specific niche of clients and you need to find the things that they like to do, the things that bring them joy, and market to those sensibilities. Engaging with the right people online is a perfect strategy for finding success on social media.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
At SchlickArt, we big believers in leading with authenticity and supporting our community. We have pride in where we live and we want do our best to support our community as best we can, and in return they have support us back.
So with that comes attending a lot of in-person networking events, social, non-profit events, etc. We feel like if we can meet new people at every event, we are doing something right. So continuing to grow our network has been huge. We complement that with a good amount of social media marketing and email newsletter marketing. We offer an educational blog once a week and support that with email newsletters to provide value to all our new networking friends.
