We recently connected with Brian Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Brian , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Yes honestly I feel like it has been a mix of both, I’ve been misunderstood as well as my work/ Craft. When it comes to poetry it is a art form that is universally appealing but sometimes not universally understood. The depth of poetry goes far beyond the surface when it comes to expression. Myself being a poet I’ve suffered the lack of acceptance at times for being just that, a poet, not a rapper, a singer or any other sort. Now honestly speaking poetry has birth rap, but some people don’t understand the backstory. Poetry a lot of the times attacks feelings, emotions and situations that aren’t easily talked about. It is a vehicle used to get listeners through pain, love, sorrow, heartbreak as well as uplift our souls and minds with motivation, inspiration and empowerment. Poetry has been therapy in my life and has helped me through many days and nights. This form of art is filled with substance and passion. I’ve learned that although it may not be for everybody in its rare form, when giving the chance and depending on the painter viewers can see the picture and it’s thousand words it holds.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got my business/ businesses from some genuine core values that have always hit home; love, purpose, ambition, honor & elevation. When it comes to the merchandise I create I wanted it to of course provide my customers with a constant confidence that runs through there vains along with it igniting there minds to not settle and provoke change and innovation. I want my supports and community to know they have a purpose and sometimes it requires you to think outside of the box to figure it out. As far as garments available on our site, we produce t shirts, sweatshirts, jogger suits, hoodies, baseball caps, trucker caps &book bags. With a quite a few designs and colorways to choose from. I want any potential customers and consumers to know that This brand is for everyone, nobody is excluded, the goal is unity in purpose.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Providing more platforms and providing a open mind for creatives to work and interact with. Support and feedback is key when you’re a creative. It’s a daily battle to press on and keep creating and extending yourself to the public.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to change the current direction of our youth. I have nephews and nieces growing up in this day and time and one day children of my own. I want them to know they are loved and their minds/ thoughts matter. I feel like the disconnect amongst generations come from both sides not feeling as if there feelings and traumas matters. Communication and understanding can go a long way. Along with a change of perspective.
