We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brian Beckiwth a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it’s more about finding something you love rather then working harder than the next person. Well it does require blood sweat and tears and incredible amount of work and doing things you don’t want to do. You’ll go a lot further if you’re doing something you like that’s for sure.

Brian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Los Angeles cinematographer. Originally from New York, I began my filmmaking journey shooting YouTube videos with friends in my teenage years. I started working at a nonprofit youth media organization when I was 14 where I learned how to use final cut pro, use lights, use the camera etc. From there I went to school in Chicago for four years and as soon as I graduated I moved to LA to pursue my career.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Try to lead by example and not by fear. I believe there’s many different ways to lead. But you set a big example by your Morel and how you act yourself and how you go about things that trickles down to the vibe of everyone else.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Aside from doing what you love, it’s the people. You meet people from all walks of life in all parts of the world on a very intimate level, you’re going into their homes you’re following them around for the day. Some of the most famous people. Unique people, influential people . It’s never the same.
