We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brian Ballance. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brian below.
Brian , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
A project that has meant a lot to me would definitely be my show, The Interesting Podcast. I started it in September of 2015 and it’s become one of the most personally fulfilling things I’ve done. The Interesting Podcast is a show where I talk to someone whom I find interesting. What started out as a genuine curiosity turned into me learning from so many different people and meeting some of my now closest friends. Most of the time, what you’re hearing is my guest and I talking with each other for the first time. Over the course of an hour or so, I get to know them on a human level and we connect in a genuine way. It’s such a beautiful experience every time and I’m so grateful for it.
Brian , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey! I’m Brian. I was born in North Carolina, raised in SW Florida and I’ve wanted to be an actor for as long as I can remember. After doing children’s theatre and 4 years of drama in high school, I started acting professionally in 2014 and started my own podcast, The Interesting Podcast with Brian Ballance, the following year.
As far as acting goes, I’ve worked on over 50 projects ranging from feature films, tv shows, commercials, audio dramas and short films. One short film in particular, a western called BLISTERS, won me a Best Actor award at the One-Reeler International Film Festival.
As for The Interesting Podcast, my guests have been actors, directors, stunt performers, Oscar-winners, NYT Best-Selling authors, tattoo artists, FBI agents, World-Record holders and MANY more, spanning over 200 episodes.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The collaboration. Filmmaking is one of the most collaborative art forms. There’s something special about so many people coming together to make a thing. Some of the closest friends I’ve made in my life have been made on a set.
I have always believed that acting is a sort-of creative, blue collar job. I see it as my job to be as best as I can be at my craft to be as of-service as I can to bringing someone’s idea to life.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
It wasn’t an option when I started, but there is now an INCREDIBLE website called SkillsHub (acting.skillshub.life) that was founded by my friend, Jennifer Hale. Not only is she a world-record holder for Most Prolific Video Game Voice Actor, she’s a wonderful human being who genuinely cares about the acting community.
SkillsHub is a resource for voice actors to be able to connect with each other, train with working professionals and get one-on-one coaching with some of the best VO coaches in the world at an affordable rate. You can get coaching by the minute and learn in a way that works best for you within your budget.
It’s an amazing resource.
