We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Briahna Viglianco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Briahna, appreciate you joining us today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
There is definitely room for profitability in the photography world but it doesn’t come easy. A lot of people assume that all you need to do is learn to use a camera and you’re good to go. But there is so much more to it. It’s challenging to find a voice in such a saturated industry but paving your own path is necessary. Establishing a personality as an artist helps to draw in clients.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a lifestyle and fine art photographer that specializes in working with brands. I began by photographing my family as a hobby and posting my work to Instagram. Soon, a following started and brands began to reach out. It’s such a joy to be able to connect with so many businesses, small and large, from around the world. Being able to work and spend time with my family at the same time is something I’m extremely grateful for.
Something I strive for is to provide brands with images that they can’t get by hiring a studio photographer. I love to provide images that everyone can relate to but are also artistic and professional.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media, hands down. The ease of access to brands from every corner of the world is something you can’t get anywhere else. It’s also a curated portfolio of my for them to see at any time. It is by far the easiest place to discover and be discovered.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media following is something Ive worked to build for some time. The best thing you can do to grow is to be consistent! Post regularly, share yourself and what you. You can’t grow if you’re not there. Also, join the community! Don’t be a recluse… talk, engage and share!
