Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bria Jaime. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bria, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share a story with us from back when you were an intern or apprentice? Maybe it’s a story that illustrates an important lesson you learned or maybe it’s a just a story that makes you laugh (or cry)?
I had quite the amount of apprenticeships and internships in my life aka being the assistant (and learner). Such a cool role. This is where all the real foundational learning begins for sure. It gives you perspective. I had some great times, and some bad times. One huge learning moment was when I worked for someone who really belittled me and talked down to me with a smile on their face. I was scared and stressed everyday coming to work and always felt like I wasn’t doing a good job. The job lasted 3 months, I worked long hours, and the pay was not fair. When they let me go to hire my best friend, I felt completely betrayed and realized how unprofessional that was. I had stayed thinking they were the best of the best, but came to realize it doesn’t matter someone’s status. You better treat your assistant right, you better love them, take care of them, teach them, encourage them, inspire them, and pay them right. I learned a lot at that job honestly, I learned the actual tools of the craft, but I knew that I would be mindful of how I talk to and treat someone always, and those around me. The next apprenticeship I had was the complete opposite. The most inspiring, motivating, and fair mentor ever. And they thought I was the best assistant ever! So that hurtful experienced, turned into something very valuable for my next experience.

Bria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Being in the creative field, I like to take on a lot of hobbies that end up becoming little businesses. I am a hairstylist, content creator, actress, musician, spiritual mentor and Akashic Records & Tarot reader, and recently just started teaching dance. I am also a Mother which is a huge job in itself! But I love all of these creative fields and have spent so much time my entire life practicing all of them that they have evolved themselves into gaining clients, students, and long time friends. I have always been loved to be on stage and backstage, in front of the camera, and behind the camera, I have been the student, and the teacher. The assistant, and the main talent. so I have a wide experience of both sides of these activities. So I feel I can relate with all types of people from all walks of life and that makes my heart happy. My intention is to be able to help all of those that cross my path in whichever avenue in any way I know how, whether it be a new hair color, style, help writing a song, waking up the spirit with dance, past life readings, or pure entertainment. And if you’re my student, I will teach you all I know.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artists is the joy and gratitude from those I work with. It really works both ways, and you know it’s uplifting the planet as a whole. We reach a higher and higher vibration the more we say yes to doing the things we want, so for my students, taking that initiative to show up and learn something new, and my clients to say yes to self care. It’s a win win always.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There was once a time where I completely took a leap of faith and changed my career path, and left a job cold turkey trusting I would find where my soul was calling. And I did! It’s crazy because I thought it would be a permanent shift, but it turns out, I still am able to do it. It was the time I was assisting as a hairstylist and after several years of giving it my all to the industry, I realized it was time for me to start sharing my talents I had inside me and start performing. It was time to get into the entertainment business as talent. I was living with a friend who let me stay at their place temporarily and it was such a time where I had no idea what I was doing, no money, not sure of even where I would live next. How could I quit a job? Something that was promising for my future, to be at a top salon in Beverly Hills. Something just told me no. Go do this. So I did. I put in my 2 weeks and started looking on Craigslist. And boom. $15 an hour 8 hours a day full time to work in a studio performing live online whatever you want. WHATEVER YOU WANT. I was like, YES I can sing! This was in 2016 so the wages were about right. I went in and got the job, that started right away! I was like is this real life? It sure was and did the tables turned. The best things happened for me right after that. It took me to New York, writing and putting out my first songs, holding my own shows in LA and NYC, and costar in a feature film, to more and more acting, writing, and performing jobs. It was so cool. A whole new world. So sometimes, when you think you don’t know what you’re doing or where you’re going. Trust those little soul callings, those urges to move forward and do the next coolest thing. It might seem scary, it might be a huge risk, but you never know. It just might be perfect.
