We recently connected with Bri Wesson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bri thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would have started painting and drawing a long time ago. I’ve actually been drawing my whole life (not great by the way) but didn’t take it seriously until Nov 2021. Starting sooner for me would have given me a much more peaceful outlet when I was trying to figure out who I wanted to be in this world. I already had my promotional business but one day I was looking on Instagram, and I seen drawing tutorials and it immediately caught my attention. As far as my Obituary business , I started this journey (and still in the process) a few months ago after my grandfather Joseph passed Jan 3rd, 2022. My cousin and I both wrote and designed his obituary and I’ve never looked back. It made me feel so proud knowing that I could send him away with my own personal touch and care. Starting this business means so much to me because I have a personal connection to wanting to make a person’s saddest moment and turning into a moment that can be positively celebrated.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who don’t know me , I have 3 different businesses. (Instagram pages)
1. weikeup_dailypromo- Where I promote all black owned businesses for an affordable fee and also offer virtual assistance services. I offer Business Audits , Hashtag and Caption Services.
2/3 weikeup_dailycreations – I offer graphic designs on obituary programs and also write the obituary itself if that is requested by a client. I create original artwork for sale as well and will be taking commissions very soon.
I feel like what sets me apart from other competitors is that I support everyone and that I’m only focused on creating the best products and providing the best service that I can. I try not to compare what I do to what others are doing because once you start comparing you get lost in what you even decided to do this all in the first place. I feel like I solve many different problems from supporting black owned businesses, to offering service that help boost business to selling artwork that someone will want to buy to explore their creative side and want to add some artistic flair in their lives to helping those who are grieving who may be too saddened to worry about writing an obituary or creating one. I help take over some of the stressful process and pain it puts on a person who has so much to worry about already.
I’m most proud that I have people who believe in everything I put my mind to and I’m really blessed to have a strong support system in my life that drives me to put my all into every single thing that I do. I am passionate about all 3 businesses because I love to help people . I’ve always just wanted that in return when it comes to every aspect of my life. With me loving what I do I will always give it my all and 100%.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is knowing that it’s something I physically created. It’s an original! No copies, I put in my own work and everything I create is so unique and different . I love getting paid to do something that I genuinely love. I get to wake up in the morning and just create. It helps me in my spiritual journey to be different and let my creativity shine through. Knowing that I’ve made someone’s day with my art or obituaries makes it worth while.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes I would love to get to a point where I can fully rely on my Creations and Artistry to financially support myself . I would also love to be featured in an art show/ exhibit or even host my own full of all of my creations. I would also love to one day have celebrity clients for all of my businesses.
