We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bri Logue a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bri, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
The business was new, and my husband and I knew that we needed help if we were going to make it a success. We took our time creating our core values and standard operating procedures, then we started to look for employees.
We found two great virtual assistants through onlinjobs.ph. They were excited to help us with cold calling and pulling lists/skip tracing. The first person we hired was great at first, but after a few weeks, she stopped converting leads. Come to find out, she had been faking her dials the whole time! So we had to let her go.
Our second VA refused to follow the script and it turned out she was not a good fit for our company so we had to let her go too.
We were a little discouraged at that point but knew we needed help if we wanted to scale.
We re-evaluated and took our time finding our ideal employee this time around. Doing a multi-step interview process. We start with the job posting asking applicants to put a small * at the bottom of the post to include when on the headline when submitting their application. That weeds a lot of candidates out right away, to see if they can follow instructions.
We then ask them to complete a sample task to make sure it’s something they can do, then we schedule a zoom interview. Having the multi-step process has really helped us narrow down our candidates and make it easier to find the best fit for us.
Now we have systems in place that keep everyone accountable and on track, we check in with our employees every morning to make sure we all know what we need to be doing that day.
Our business is doing better than ever and growing at a great pace, thanks to our amazing team!
Bri, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Bri Logue, I’m a Realtor and Distributions Leader at We Buy Sad Houses. We Buy Sad Houses is a company that helps homeowners sell their homes to investors for cash on their timeline. We know that selling a home can be a difficult and emotional process, so we work hard to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible. Our mission is to help homeowners get out of tough situations quickly and easily, and our vision is to become the go-to source for quick home sales.
I also am the Host of The Women Empower Podcast, helping women share their stories about how they became entrepreneurs.
Any advice for managing a team?
We love and value our employees, so we make sure they are happy. We do this by giving them bonuses when the company wins or achieves big milestones! We also check in daily with all of our employees, to ensure we always have open communication.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My husband and I have been together for 12 years, he started his first business about 5 years after we met. He sold it a few years after that and then we started a marketing business together. It was great at first, but we quickly realized we had very different ideas of how we wanted the company to run, so we split the company and did our own things. Fast forward another 4 years and we decided to work together again, but this time we spent a lot of time going over our roles in the company and our vision for the future! It’s only been about a year so far, but I’m so happy I get to work with him every day, I couldn’t imagine anything better!
