We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bri Alexander. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bri below.
Hi Bri, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
Before becoming a business owner, I worked in education and hospitality. I have always worked in busy environments around lots of different people. Over time, I learned the importance of connecting with others, truly seeing them, and appreciating their uniqueness. Everyone has a story we know nothing about and usually will share it when given a safe space. My job experience taught me interpersonal skills to connect beyond the surface. Moreover, I also learned to honor my own limits as a highly-sensitive person who enjoys working with people. haha.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a sound healing practitioner and holistic wellness coach operating in Baltimore and the DMV. I help with relaxation, de-stressing, and energetic blockages.
My business, Bri Alexander Wellness, incorporates lots of different holistic modalities including sound healing, Reiki, mindfulness, breathwork, somatic movement, and dance magic – all to create an immersive experience. I offer customizable sessions ranging from corporate wellness, special events, wellness parties, and 1 to 1 energy healing.
I am most proud of the impact this work has had on the community. Introducing sound healing and dance magic to so many people brings me joy. The relaxation, release, and rejuvenation are very rewarding to witness. I get to see people open up to themselves in magical ways.
My clients need to understand that I am on the journey right along with them. Resonance is key in all ways, and it’s an integral part of my work. Being able to relate and know that I have maybe been through a similar experience, helps people feel more at ease. I share offerings as tools and guidance, but I am no one’s guru – nor do I try to be.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
This was pretty straightforward for me. I used my restaurant income to kickstart my business. I knew that I needed a certain dollar amount to make me feel comfortable launching the business, and I knew that the restaurant industry would help me get that capital fairly quickly. I took a seasonal job in a really busy beach town and stacked the money that I needed all summer long. Some weeks I worked 6 or 7 days at the restaurant, and anyone who works in the hospitality industry knows that those are long hours. While it was exhausting, it was so worth it. It gave me a sense of pride knowing that I built something entirely from the ground up.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media has been instrumental in the growth of my business. Sharing my offerings online has brought me some of the most amazing clients. It allows them to get a clear depiction of my offerings, and visualize how I may be able to help them. Word-of-mouth referrals have also been huge for my business, because people know they can trust me, especially after someone they know shares about their experience. It’s really all about connecting and showing up authentically.
