We were lucky to catch up with Breyonna Reece-Elliott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Breyonna, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my own social media platforms. I’m definitely working towards hiring my own team next year.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve always been inspired by art and beauty since I was a child. I naturally knew how to paint and sketch, so applying my talents to makeup brought me into beauty industry at the age of 26. I started in wardrobe styling, and quickly transitioned into a self-taught professional makeup artist, and that is where my journey truly began.
Makeup artistry was not only an outlet for my talents, but also a beautiful way to connect with so many different people. To me, it’s deeper than makeup. Yes, makeup enhances beauty on a surface level, but it’s the transparent human interactions that really brings out the magic.
I like for my clients to feel good from within while looking smokin’ hot on the outside. In my opinion, that’s the magic combo.
After 4 years of professionally doing makeup, I expanded my brand and launched B. Alexis Cosmetics to make beautiful, fun and healthy makeup products to enhance the experience I bring to my clients. I wanted my first product to be a product that everyone can have fun with, so I launched my Frisky Fairy eyeshadow palette. I’ve later added coconut oil based lip glosses. I’m currently in the middle of creating new products for my line and I’m just really excited for the expansion and growth of my brand thus far! I want my cosmetic line to be the B. Alexis Experience™ that my makeup clients and custumers can take home with them.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the “No Sleep, Grind Culture” mentality. I realized that I need rest and a proper diet to be the best version of myself and run my business well. I learned that it is healthy to give myself off days and balance my personal and business life. I used to be a ball of anxiety working hard to achieve a goal faster than usual, and the only result was exhaustion and creative paralysis. After prioritizing rest and organization, I now encourage every business owner to do the same. Health over Wealth is the way to go.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clientele has actually been client referrals and my instagram page ( @balexisbeautysuite ). My social media platforms and speaking to people in person are effective, but most of my clients come to me, because they had a few friends or relatives praise my work and refer them to me.
