We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Breyanna Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Breyanna below.
Alright, Breyanna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I’ve had the passion for art since an early age, but it wasn’t until I was a freshman in high school that I realized that I wanted to be an artist for a living. I went to a relative’s house one night and I showed her some paintings I did, and she loved them. We got to talking and she was so hooked by my paintings she suggested I’d sell them and make prints. The entire ride back home I thought about our conversation and came to the conclusion that I wanted to pursue an art career. I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to do after school because nothing ever interested me enough to the point where I wouldn’t mind doing it for the rest of my life to make a living. I was certain that I didn’t want to go to college or work a nine to five for the rest of my life. I fear repetition. Art was the only thing that genuinely interested me. The following two years I had a lot of mental struggles. I would find myself turning to art to visualize my pain to help take the weight off my shoulders. I feel a sense of peace and relief when I paint. I officially launched my art business my junior year of high school. I love to create paintings that connect and trigger people emotionally. My goal is to make people feel less alone when they’re going through their silent battles. As someone who struggles to communicate their emotions, I know what it feels like to feel misunderstood. When I look at my art, I feel like someone knows exactly how I feel because I don’t have a clue in the world how to put it into words. Everyone goes through something whether they speak on it or not. We all need an outlet of comfort and reassurance no matter how much we try to hide it. My mission for bre.sart is to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.
Breyanna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
When I was ten years old, I went on vacation with my dad. Normally, my dad would always sleep and stay in the room majority of the time. Any other time I would sit around and wait but this trip I took a composition notebook and some pencils. While waiting on my dad to get up I would spend all my time drawing on the balcony. I found it quite peaceful and felt so proud of my drawings. I continued to draw over the years before I introduced myself to painting. There were times where I’d go months without painting, but I’d always find my way back to it. As I got older and started to experience tribulations, l’d find myself turning to art to help me cope. I’d paint what the experience would feel like to me, A vision would come to me and I’d do my best to express it through my art. Through my walk with Christ, I’ve had many signs of conformation telling me that this was what I was made for, my calling. I want people to look at my art and relate to it knowing they’re not alone with their silent battles.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I’ve learned for growing clientele is word of mouth, networking, and social media. I live in a small town, so everything gets around. I share my artwork on all social media platforms, but most of my clients have come from Facebook where people post and share my work.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My biggest audience I have for my art is my TikTok page. Before I dedicated a separate page just for art, I would post painting montage videos on my main account. I then made an announcement about my new art page to shift my followers to my art account. It took a long time to build the followers I have now but the most important thing I’ve learned to grow your account is being consistent. When you consistently post and engage with your platform, the algorithm is more likely to boost your content more. If I had to start over, I would plan a consistent schedule to post and be patient.
